I bought this NEC drive from Newegg. I've yet to burn a single coaster. I'm very pleased with it.

the nec 3500 is great, if you go to cdfreaks.com many people have great things to say about it. I use it and have burned close to 200 dvd's without error.
edited to say that i agree with above post. I purchased mine from pcmicrostore.com but they are very similarly priced.

I hear great things about the Pioneer. Supposed to be up there in the teams of Plextor.

The above mentioned burners are great brands. I personally have a Lite-On Dual Layer DVD+-/RW and have yet to turn out a coaster. They have a great deal on this burner on Newegg.com

Here you can download the Unoffcial firmware for Pioneer DVR-108 by NIL from http://gradius.rpc1.org/DVR-108D%20into%20DVR-108DX.zip, This firmware allows the burner to burn 4x or 8x Discs at 16x... I dont have any problems or errors after burning using 16x.. you can also check gradius.rpc1.org for other Pioneer DVD writer firmwares...

I never receive emailfrom G|A for some reason and it goes to spam folder and gets trashed... so the best way for you guys to contact me is by AIM @ Josh64FX

I got in on the PC Connection deal on this burner - $40.00 or so A/R (posted here 12/26). Been on the road this week but will install it next week when I get back home...

sony is way overpriced. and if u want, you can always just buy a maddog or something for 50 or 60, and its the same speed. they dont last as long though

well I like that you can overburn them. Pioneer isn't so bad. I bought a few NEC drives at $39 and sold them on ebay for at least $60 so the pioneer becomes free

I'm getting that Pioneer DVR-108 after getting a Samsung TS-H552B for Christmas. I'm sending the Samsung back because it wouldn't read the cdr's I have. Bleh. Apparently it's very media brand sensitive. And I've heard nothing but rave reviews about the Pioneer. So...

Got anyplace cheaper than $87 at meritline?

ZipZoomFly has the white one for 80 shipped, and black for 81 shipped.

    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...&Brand=PIONEER

They are just bare drives, though. But it looks like the one from Meritline is too so ZZF seems like your best bet. I love those guys.
