iPod broken? (Stuck on Disconnect screen, PC won't recognize it)

So, I was messing around with my dad's laptop I gave him for Christmas trying to figure it out and I think I ****ed it up. I had it connected to the PC and then for some reason it stopped recognizing it. It is now stuck on the screen wher it says 'Do Not Disconnect' and the battery life is at half it says (eventhough I had just charged it all day and know it was full). Whenever I plug it into the computer it says the device is not recognized. I've tried several computers and both USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports. I tried holding down the menu and play buttons as someone says that resets it but it did not work.

Any clue on how to fix this? Did I break it for good?

Were you able to even reset the ipod? One way is to force it into firewire hardrive mode:
Reset you iPod by holding the Play and menu buttons, then one you see the Apple logo boot screen, hold down both the forward and backward track skip button until you see the FireWire logo on the screen.

Also try attaching it to mac. Maybe OS X will see it. Then apply "restore" from the ipod updater.

Is it making any kind of strange noises? Hopefully the reset will fix it.

I don't know anything about Ipods but have you tried removing the battery temporarily? Is it the mini kind or the regular?

I got it to work. Well, after a reset. Apparently with this version to reset it it's not the Menu and Play buttons, it's the Menu and SELECT buttons you have to hold down adn it has to be plugged into the power adapter and you have to toggle the hold switch before. Damn you google! You failed me this time! Thanks for the help guys.
