    Sony S170 13.3" 4.2lb notebook loaded - $1699

    http://store.yahoo.com/ourstore-2000/sovas1ce1605.html

    1.8ghz
    dvd+-rw
    512mb ram
    radeon 9700 64mb
    60gig hdd

Its a sony and its the same price* and weight as a similarly configured dell 700m. So if you are in the market for an awesome slim notebook, this would be a good way to go.

It also has the radeon 9700 and 13.3" screen which the dell doesnt have. I am typing this up on my S170 from ourstore.com.

If you want to learn more about it, pm me or checkout talkvaio.com. Their forums have a good deal of info on these notebooks.

*I just priced 700m from dell. It ended up at $1644 + 7.5% tax in Ca. The vaio was $1699 shipped from ourstore.com (located in Illinois).

Also, if you want an extended warranty with it, you can buy them for roughly 150$ for a 2 year with accidental protection and 250$ for a 3 year.

I'm in the market for a laptop and I was considering the apple powerbook, a dell or an IBM. How are Sony laptops? What is the battery run time on a full charge? Also, I read about the constantly crashing problem form some people.

I don't like Sony. They're nice to look at, but not very stable & they use a lot of proprietary parts, so you'd better hope they still have the drivers available for download if you lose the CD. They also tend to be more expensive than most.

You'd be better off going with your choice of Apple, IBM or Dell.

I love my sony. I had a Dell inspiron 8100, and it was cheaply made with not a very strong plastic composite. There was noise on the line of the headphone port that was an unaddressed design flaw. The sony has a solid feel to it. It is sleek, light, and stylish, and has yet to give me a single problem.
