For the life of me. I can not figure why he installed the engine that high in the frame of that car. Obviously, it was originally front wheel drive and lacked support for such a heavy engine with gobs of torque.

I would love to see the gigantic hump next to the driver.

I guarantee that it will never pass inspection.

Thinking about it, I believe I know why he set the engine so high. It was probably to clear the rack and pinion steering.

On front wheel drive cars, most steering racks are attached to the firewall. He probably installed the engine so that it would go OVER the rack, because the tranny wouldn't clear the rack if he tried it the other way.

And to fabricate a different power steering setup with rack and pinion is next to impossible, especially within the year's time which he built the car.

    Still, it's dumb engineering.

A real man woulda put in an entirely new front subframe, which woulda properly accommodated a steering rack.
