    March of the Penguins

    Overall rating: C

I'm a fan of a good documentary and I'm also an animal lover but this movie didn't quite cut the mustard for me. This documentary chronicled the extraordinary 70+ mile migration that the emperor penguins make to their breeding grounds every year. There was some beautiful cinematography that became redundant after a while. The film of the birds themselves was beautiful and amazing. Especially the scenes of the young baby penguin chicks stumbling around.

There were a lot of kids in the movie theater. It's definitely a family movie (I believe it's rated G). But it can feel drawn out and a little boring after a while. Some of the kids began to get restless even though the movie is only an hour and a half long. It's narrated by Morgan Freeman. Overall I'd save this for a rental instead of paying full price in the theater.

I also saw March of the Penguins, & rate it much higher: B/B+

    I'll give it a B.
Um why did you give the whole plot away??? That's not a review, that's a movie report. I'd rather hear your opinions and why you thought it was a B then telling me everything that i'm going to see. As hokey as that plot is, people like to be surprised.

Well, sorry, but I DID leave out the ending that has yet another twist, and the part about Will Farrell that someone else mentioned. Either way, it's still worth seeing, and I would go again (at matinee prices) with a special someone, so even after seeing it or knowing the plot, it's a fun movie.

I felt it was a "B" because as fun as the plot was, it was rather thin and never delved into things like why these guys decided to do all this, and what power this family has, and how all of this crazy family keeps itself out of the media's fingers...you know, all the realistic stuff that makes you feel that this may be real.

I'm so not trying to gang up on you Dogo (as you are a very good friend of mine), but I also wondered why you kinda posted an outline of the plot. Some reviewers (like for the paper) do the same thing, and that's why I do not read reviews before seeing a film. I look at what the overall rating/grade/feeling is and then see what Fred Saxon & you guys/gals have to say about it before paying to see it (free movies that I can actually get tix to and make the screening are another story!).

I am sorry if I ruined the Will Farrell surprise for any of you. I am probably guilty of the same thing as you. I think this thread can be more helpful to its readers if we don't post "spoilers," or if we specify in the title that the review contains spoilers (like was done on multiple Star Wars E3 threads) and I will try not to spoil in my reviews.

On a final note, I finally got out to see Crash yesterday. It was a very intense movie, but I didn't understand all of it. I left for about 10 minutes like 25 minutes into the film, and I think i missed something important. So, until I can watch it again on DVD, I give it a B.

I don't think you have given away any more than what was on the comercials on TV and the previews in theatres. This isn't rocket science and it is pretty easy to see where it is going just by watching the commercials a few times. I still luv ya Dog

    Thanks, RW
But I'll still try to keep my summaries more concise.

    Thumbs up Wedding Crashers

You're all correct. The movie was great. (Not appropriate for kids) And that special surprise almost at the end made it even greater.

And the people in the line were nice too.

They gave posters, t-shirts, and balloons to make balloons animals like in the movie.

I heard that as remakes go, it will not replace the original.
But the most scary thing was; There was no Humpa Lumpa songs!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm with chichi. I need more feedback on this movie.

Siskel & Roeper gave it two thumbs up but both disliked Depp's performance as Charlie saying that it just lacked something.

Check out their review this Saturday on their encore show at 6:30 NBC.

I do not like TV critics (except for Fred Saxon). The usually say the movie is good because they gat something out of it.
That is why I like reviews from here. These are the real -we pay money out of our own pocket- people reviews.

I have to add another good review for The Wedding Crashers. It had plenty of laugh out loud moments, a good brainless comedy. Vince Vaughn is genius. I don't know how his co-stars could keep a straight face through some of his scenes when he's obviously ad libbing. I would have been on the floor! Not an intellectual movie but funny nevertheless.

Forget about 'Charlie & the Chocolate Factory' , & go see 'THE ISLAND' = A- Action packed, with 2 caveats: loud & longish (over 2 hrs).

    Also recommend 'RED EYE' = A- Suspense/Thriller

    Talking Fantastic 4

I just got home from seeing this!. I have never read the stroy or comics, so I knew nothing about the characters. While I didn't see a really strong plot/script, the visual effects were spectacular (and of course Jessica Alba is hotter than torch boy could ever get)! So, for these reasons I will give it an A-. It was definitely better than I expected!

    War of the Worlds

I know I'm late with my review on this, but I'll sum it up in haiku form:

    You say "This I like!"
To which I can only say
    "How is your son Tom?"

    Grade: D

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sucked. I thought Depp's performance of Wonka was just plain bad. On top of that, the jokes in the movie were REALLY REALLY lame. I laughed maybe once or twice during the song & dance scenes but besides that the only other funny part was Augustus - but how can you not laugh at a fat little german kid who likes to eat chocolate? I was pretty bored during the whole thing and wasn't really impressed with the chocolate factory. I think it failed to capture some the magic that makes the story great. I wanted to like it. I really did, but it was no good.

I was 7 years old when the original Charlie & the Chocolate Factory came out. It was so incredibly great to see. I haven't seen the new one yet because I was concerned it just wouldn't compare to the old one. I Think I'll wait to see in on DVD.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. I loved the original, I had a crush on Kelly for months. What was I thinking? Good to know it worth seeing.
