I went to see "red eye" at a sneak preview last night. the movie was kind of short. 1 hour and 19minutes. i would give it maybe 3 stars out of 5 at the most.

We've actually decided to use a "school" grading system that I proposed in post #48. But sometimes we like to hear what "professional" reviewers think and they have their own system.
As a refresher, here's what most people in this thread have adopted:

I think people should be able to rate/review a movie as they choose! Even as nonverbose as a Thumbs up or Thumbs down![]()
Oh, I wasn't saying they couldn't, just offering what many people were using that seemed to have worked well for us. Sorry if it came across a bit strong-armed.Originally Posted by Paniolo
The only thing I would request is that if you give a grade (letter, stars, thumb) that you give a sentence to explain why you feel that way.
e.g. "I give a thumbs up because...I liked the characters / the storyline was good / the action was fantastic / it was funny / etc."

Sorry Dogopoly i guess i read your post #48 when you first posted at that time....never thought much more about it... i just do a A great B satisfactory
C ok D barely making it and F failure....never thought about doing it any different....
So are we doing it a certain way or just doing as we think and feel after seeing a movie....let me know the input on this.....

As Paniolo indicated, any system that you want to use works.Originally Posted by PeachieGleem

I just saw Red Eye, and was VERY impressed with the film. Sure, it's a bit short, but that means that there is no point in which the film drags (something I think would have happened had the movie been longer). Definately an A rating from me.
(and yes, bonus points for the lack of gore -- proof that blood & guts isn't needed for a true thriller.

Me three! I don't like gore (I think the movie Event Horizon was terrible in that respect!) and was very happy to not see any here. Wes Craven doesn't exactly have a clean record in that department!
I saw The 40-Year-Old Virgin last night Downtown. This was a pretty good film. Some good laughs, but not quite what I was expecting. I was very surprised by the lack of actual nudity and sexual situations in the film. There was, of course, some of both, but not as much as, say, American Pie, The Girl Next Door, and other films like those.
The movie was 2 Hours & 10 Minutes (just right). I did miss the first 25 minutes or so, so I'll have to catch that another time and report back to you. The film had a nice ending. Overall, I'll give it a B+.
Let Your Freak Flag Fly, Real Real High!
I'm really catching up this weekend! I saw Deuce Bigalow European Gigalo and the last 1.5 hours of Four Brothers
Deuce was about what I expected, although I was hoping for a funnier/better movie. It was mildly entertaining, but there were WAY too many penis jnokes and there was too much gay material. The woman who played Deuce's love interest was HOT! I'm giving this one a weak B. It's not worth full price unless you don't want to think.
I agree with others here and elsewhere that Four Brothers was a great film. The acting was great, and the story was believable. It definitely won't help Detroit's tourism industry! Although I missed the first 45 or so mins, I picked the plot up quickly. I'm giving this film an A-. Worth full price if you must pay it.
Let Your Freak Flag Fly, Real Real High!
The 40 year old virgin was far and away the best movie this year. It easily jumped into my top 10 comedies of all time, it was that good. I know I missed some of the jokes because I was laughing too hard, so this will be a definite DVD buy for me. Totally exceeded my expectations.
Day For Surfing Movies
March of the Penguins Found out quickly it was not a real show to keep the attention of a 4 year old... but we survived it... It was a very educational show... Things i did not know that penguins do or go through for mating and breeding. The show does focus on one couple in particular. The penguins trek across the Antarctic A 84 min movie and i rated this movie B+.
Duke of Hazzards It did have Action/Adventure and Comedy, not one of my favorite shows...but it was okay...I never really watched this show on television...reminds me of the Beverly Hillbillies... Burt Reynolds didn't do too bad....
i will rate this movie about a B-. Only 2 people in this moive watching it.
Charlie Chocolate FactoryI can say i like the first movie made of this one... But for the eyes of a child its great.. Alot of Musical/Performing Arts and Science Fiction/Fantasy 1 hour 46 mins of amusement for a child. PG for quirky situations, action and mild language. I will rate it as a B-
Sky High Action/Adventure and Kids/Family and alot of kids in this movie... kept most of them and their attention. PG for action violence and some mild language. Family members and teenagers with super power . Especially when your father is world's most legendary superheroes The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston), when an evil villain threatens his family, friends and the very sanctity of Sky High, Will(Michael Angarano) must use his newfound superpowers to save the day and prove himself a "Hero" worthy of the family tradition. The name Stronghold (family name) is well known... I will rate this movie a B.

I saw the 40 Year Old Virgin and it was very good but the last 15 minutes kinda just fizzled because I think they needed to start winding down and have an ending. I give it a B+ at least.
The Brothers Grimm
After scamming people based on old wives tales and fantasy stories, the brothers are recruited by the French Army to solve the mystery of a haunted forest that is stealing little girls from a nearby town.
The acting was pretty good, the storyline was all over the place trying to fit a thread for every known Grimm fairy tale (although most were assembled well) and the props were well designed to fit the time (circa 1800) but some of the graphics were a bit weak.
Although there were parts scary for kids, they will enjoy trying to figure out what fairy tale they're trying to show.
Good for a matinee, so I'll give it a B.

Last nite i saw The Caves
A team of rescuers were sent down in a cave, to find the spelunkers who first explored its depths. When their search is halted of searching they run into monstrous creatures. But clue you in...its not scarey at all....Action/Adventure and Thriller
1 hr. 37 min.
I would rate it about a C.......
The Brothers Grimm
I will agree with Dogo about this show.... fantasy stories.... we ourselves picked out all the fairy tales in this movie.. This movie was not quiet what i thought it was going to be.... funny in some parts and some far fetching in others.... I guess to a kid into fairy tales i could understand.....
Brothers Jake and Will Grimm traveling from village to village pretending to rid them of "enchanted" creatures. But then their bluff is to be called...
Science Fiction/Fantasy and Thriller 1 hour and 58 minutes....
I don't want to say much more about it and give it away in case someone here wants to see it....
I would rate it to be about a C.....
Hey Dogo.... you know the girl's father, that was the wolf.... did you see him in the end....with everyone else reuniting?????

Bad, bad, bad movie! The movie had so much potential with all the different fairy tales! I agree with Dogo, the writers spent too much time trying to mash as many fairy tales as possible into 2 hours without figuring out a clever way to weave them into a cohesive story. A lot of money was spent on beautiful special effects and casting big names. Not much money was leftover for the silly thing known as a "script."
Both Matt Damon and Heath Ledger are good actors but this bumbling script didn't give either guy much to work with.
I was falling asleep and the guy sitting two seats away from me was dead asleep halfway through the film. I would recommend waiting until this comes out on DVD and renting it for free from your local library. C-
THE CAVE:
I didnt even scream but twice. thats good for me. It was kinda boring. I would not pay to see it. I give it a C
ASYLUM.........did anyone else see that?
It was very depressing but a good movie, Id go see it...its good for a independent film, but if you dont like really sad movies dont see it. I would give this one a B+
I went to the KYXY screening of this movie tonight. Wow! I wasn't really sure what to expect. A lame chick flick or a touching film with substance... It was the latter! I was very impressed with this film from beginning to end! I liked the ending, and would recommend this one to any of you. It was very clean, no swearing, only one kinda suggestive scene (sexually speaking), but no worse than the PG-13 it was rated. It was about 1 hr & 45 minutes long.
That's about all I can say about it without giving the plot away. If you're a guy, I would definitely recommend seeing it with a woman, it'll lokely score you a few points and you get to stare at the gorgeous Reese Witherspoon the whole time!! Oh yeah, the grade, with the only caveat being that this was a chick flick, I'm giving this film an A+!
Oh yeah, I just watched Crash on DVD. Not that anyone really cares, but I'll give it a B+ the second time through. It is a very deep and serious film that will definitely leave you thinking!

Let Your Freak Flag Fly, Real Real High!
This file stars Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy (originally from 2nd City TV along with John Candy et al.)
Jackson plays an undercover agent trying to bust a gun theft deal and Levy, a dentist in town for a convention inadvertently becomes the contact guy. Jackson drags Levy in to complete the job and twists and turns lead the two of them through typical cops-tracks-criminal scenarios.
This film contained many funny scenes, lots of swearing, and an interesting plot with interesting scenes, but really had little substance, and included some "potty" humor to try to offset it.
This would be a fun movie to watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon, but not really worth the price of admission, so I'm giving it a C-.

Proof,
Gwyneth Paltrow is the daughter to Anthony Hopkins, he is a brillant genius in (Math) she is trying to come to terms of losing her father.... and his mental insanity. She has to come to terms with her own feelings and has the help of one of the math students that was in her fathers class.....finding out she has possibly inherited her fathers brillance.... her sister comes from New York....to help settle their fathers affairs.... it was a slow movie but very good....
I would rate this movie as a B.....
I have been behind in my movies of sharing..... also went to see Just Like Heaven

PG-13 for some sexual content.

The setting takes place in maximum security psychiatric asylum outside of London. The story is more about the wife Stella who is married to a Superintendent..... One of the institute's psychiatrists.... Dr Peter Cleave knows what is going on with Stella and one of the asylum's patients, he is a sculptor and he is in the asylum for disfigurement and murder of his own wife...it is a sad movie and not hard to figure out what is happening....I would rate this movie as an B
Not a movie to go on a first date with someone....
Drama and Romance

Very strong sexuality, and violence and brief language.

Did anyone else have a hard time understanding some of the dialogue?
Transporter 2
I'll be generous and give it one star. It gets that star because it had a nice car in it. The acting, storyline, continuity, and realisim all blew chunks. The most entertaining part of the movie was when the guy next to me checked his messages on his phone. I would normaly get upset about that, but in this case he wasn't interupting anything.

Also have a review of Corpse Bride, the new stop action animation movie by Tim Burton. The movie was cute and watchable but not brilliant. It was exactly what I was expecting. I wouldn't pay to see it in the theater unless you have kids who are around 10 years old. Really young kids might be scared in some scenes. Had a few musical numbers in there too. I give it a B-.

Saw it this evening. Liked it. After reading what the plot was I wondered how the movie would end. It did not end as I expected and thus was pleasantly surprised and entertained. Jodie Foster did a great job acting in this movie.
Ebert & Roper just gave this movie two thumbs up. I'd agree!
