TAKE THE LEAD = A-/B+
Drama/Musical Performing Arts. I suprisingly enjoyed this movie. Based on a true story of the owner of a Manhattan dance studio (teacher/competitor) who volunteers to teach ballroom dancing to a group of N.Y. tough, inner city youths during their school detention time....Inspiring them to 'aim higher/go for their dreams'. A bit of an over used movie senario/cliche, but the the infusion of hip hop/classic ballroom dancing & music was entertainingly fun. Antonio was a hit with the women, & the theatre goers seemed to get into the movie, & applauded at the end. Be sure to stay through the ending credits.

Saw it today. VERY, VERY, VERY funny. It moves so fast, that you laugh pretty much non-stop. AOriginally Posted by Trigun

Take the Lead-
I loved it!! great, wonderful movie, a must see! I give this one an A
OK, I have a few reviews to catch up on here:
Derailed (on DVD): A. This was a good thriller with a nice turn @ the end. Check it out.
In The Mix (DVD): B-. Okay story with a predictable ending, but a nice movie.
Inside Man: A. A tense thriller that takes you to the very end of the movie before you find out who is playing what cards. I was a little confused by the ending, but think I got the gist of it. Denzel Washington gives a great performance.
Just Friends (DVD): B. This one definitely had it's funny moments but I expected more from it.
Let Your Freak Flag Fly, Real Real High!

The Wild : C
Pretty much the same plot as Madagascar. Funny in short bursts, and definately an "awwwwww...cute" Disney film. Technically superior animation to Mada, but the writing and gags are not the best to come out of Disney. The lack of Pixar's creative writing is VERY evident here.

Thanks Bires. I imagined that The Wild was like that. Pixar is still the best when it comes to CGI and story telling.Originally Posted by Bires

It was funny, but not real funny like the others. It felt like it was missing stuff. King Kong appears on the movie poster and the trailer, but not on the movie itself as well as other stuff.

That sounded horrible. Thanks for taking one for the team Paniolo!
Let Your Freak Flag Fly, Real Real High!
This was a movie about a has-been gymnast turned neighborhood nuisance who get tossed back into the gym rather than juvie.
This was a lot like the inspirational movies of the 80s that left you kinda feeling motivated but the outcome was pretty predictable.
However, the music selection, graphical effects, choreography and much of the acting was pretty good, plus there really weren't any slow parts in the 1:45 minutes, so I'm gonna give it a solid B.
Young girls will probably love it, others just might find some of the plot twists interesting enough to enjoy.

omg Benchwarmers was pretty funny!..I just hope John Heder doesn't get type cast like that in all his movies..and I must say..Rob Schneider looked pretty darn good in this movie..mmmmm mmm good.![]()
THE SENTINEL = B+/B
'OK' movie. Was expecting more from this one......good cast potential. Kept my attention, but was too predictable in the end.
Hard Candy--
It was a disturbing movie about revenge. Some of it was intrgiuing, but I felt that parts of it were too unrealistic and a few things were never explained.
Overall I'd rank it as a "B-".

I agree with Dogo on this one, it was a different movie. I felt some of this movie was a little bizarre. A smart, charming teenage girl, Hayley probably shouldn't be going to a local coffee shop to meet Jeff, a 30-something fashion photographer she met on the Internet. But Hayley's ready to have fun, and soon she's mixing screwdrivers at Jeff's place and stripping for an impromptu photo shoot. It's Jeff's lucky night--until his vision blurs and he passes out. Turns out Hayley isn't as innocent as she...
It was partly drama and some thriller in it... and even a few laughs.
But the internet does strange things to and for people, especially lonely people of all ages.
I guess i could give it a B- also

Inside me lives a skinny woman crying to get out. But I can usually shut her up with cookies. (Chocolate Chips will do)
Has anyone seen United 93?
This is an Asian movie about a girl who was promised riches in exchange for never knowing love.
She becomes a king's girl, but the king is accidentally killed by a great warrior and his slave who fall in love with her and spend many adventures trying to woo her and keep her safe from the pursuing kingdom.
The movie had bizarre levels of fantasy that took me a while to understand. Once I realized that it was not intended to be realistic, it was often great fun with several chuckle-drawing scenes.
However, the storyline itself was a bit weak with gratuitous PG-7 fights.
Subtitled. Overall, it wasn't a great movie, but also wasn't that bad. I think I'll give it a weak B--consider it for matinee prices if you like Asian fighting films (Last Warrior, Flying Daggers, etc.)

Action packed, fast paced, with some unexpected plot twists. Overall, better than I'd anticipated![]()

POSEIDON = B/B-
IMO: Just an "OK" movie in all areas....including acting, special effects, plot, soundtrack, etc.,etc.
Story about a Raccoon who works with a bunch of other animals to gather food from a new community of houses created behind a hedge.
There were plenty of really good laughs here, but the overall antics of the group became a bit tedious at times. I think that young kids will love it, teens will get bored, and adults will find it almost like watching an episode of 3s Company where you know what's coming and wish they'd get it over with so they can get back to the plot.
However, the laughs, when they came, were pretty good, so I'll give it a solid B--bring the kids to watch it for a matinee.

I had passes to view "Wired to Win" - a story about the "Tour de France" but I couldn't make it to the veiwing. I'm wondering if anyone went and if so can they offer a review?
Thanks -

Well done, 'docu'-drama style. Nothing gratuitous. Felt like I was reliving that morning all over....helplessly watching, transfixed to the screen.

I can't believe that no one has reviewed The Da Vinci Code yet. I'm going to try to see it this weekend although the critics are pretty disappointed. I'm still going in with an open mind.
Dogopoly, you haven't seen it yet? I love your movie reviews.

I'm probably going to see it this weekend too, but I also have plans for X-men since I missed the Fox & Jack tix, so maybe not both.

Haven't seen daVinci code yet, but thought I'd post this for those who like to see how movies / books just don't quite work.

Having gone to the movie last week with greater expectations, I reviewed it ~2 hours after I got home. My rather disappointing, somewhat, caustic, but admittedly thorough review was in another thread. Let me know what y'all think:Originally Posted by dogopoly

OK, saw this instead of daVinci Code.Originally Posted by Paniolo
As seen on commercials, the humans have found a "cure" for the X-mutants and are offering it as an option to those who want. Magneto, the X-mutant rebellion leader, feels that this is just a ploy from the humans to do away with their powers.
What ensues is an all-out war of humans and "pro-human" mutants versus the "anti-human" mutants.
The movie included some surprising twists, lots of special effects, and some new characters, but left me you wondering why those powers (on both sides) were never used effectively to win the battle. Also, some of the new characters showed up rather unexpectedly without much explanation other than a quick "you should use your XXX power to help out the cause" and then they get their one scene where they get to use that power to move the story along. (Kinda reminded me of the old Star Trek, where the new character transported to the surface would be the focus of one special scene, usually a death scene, but otherwise have no really useful purpose.)
Overall, it was certainly entertaining, but parts of it were just a bit over the top in both acting and storyline. I definitely enjoyed it, but it was just a bit short of my expectations. I rate it a solid B. X-fans will certainly enjoy it; others may want to wait for a DVD rental so they can also enjoy it.

I saw the Da Vinci Code this weekend and I had a discount coupon so I ended up paying only $7.00 for two people. I have read the book and I had also seen how the reviews weren't that great so my expectations were not that high.
I thought the movie wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. I went into the movie with the mindset that it was pure fiction and entertainment. The cinematography wasn't spectacular but I thought the acting was pretty good. At times the movie slowed down more than it needed to but overall it wasn't bad. My consensus is that those who have not read the book will enjoy the movie more than those who have read it. There were some action scenes that were outlandish but then again what Hollywood movie doesn't have unbelievable action scenes?
Overall I'd give it a solid B. Definitely worth seeing at matinee price. Keep in mind that the movie is 2.5 hours long so don't drink your entire soda too early!
