Great story. Go see it. Medium pace in the beginning and picks up really quick. Bring tissues.

Saw Karate Kid today...
Very good movie... I'd give it an "A". Pretty much, they adapted parts of the original story and made it new and fresh for a "today" type of feel.
Of course there is that factor of how "Dre" (Jaden Smith) could learn so much in so little time as compared to his nemesis who probably had been doing Kung Fu since he could walk.
Great family movie... take your kids to see this one!![]()

Prince of Persia was decent. My only real gripe was the ending, and the relationship between the 2 main characters was a bit over dramatic. Interesting story though. It kind of reminds me of Back to the Future 2, where some old guy wants to change the past so his entire life he already lived was luxurious. B
I give Toy Story 3 an A. It was very enjoyable! It's nice to see that some movie studios take their time making sequels instead of crapping them out every year like Shrek did.
I also saw The A-Team and I give it an A-. It was similar to the tv show but held it's own and is definitely worth seeing. I'm glad this thread is still going, even though I seldom post on G/A anymore. I hate it when life gets in the way of play time!

Thanks for the reviews. I'm just not going much any more. Too annoying to get the free tickets and wait in those ever-longer lines. So I guess it's just the occasional pay-movie.

I didn't see movies for a while but I'm starting to again. And with that note...
Despicable Me: A-
It was a good move with a decent plot. For a non-Pixar movie, this one was very good at getting you to laugh and a bit teary emotionally. There was a scene in there I felt was very relevant to the job economy and small business. It was like a one minute scene but still it grains of truth in it. I think they could have added maybe 15 more minutes for my laughs or action.
I saw it in 2D because my experience with 3D so far (even with Toy Story) has been terrible. However I think this movie might be worth seeing in 3D especially the end credits. If you have an iPhone, there's an app you fire up that you use along with the movie which is weird. It translates what the yellow guys are saying and only work during the movie. Gimmicky yes.
Saw the new Resident Evil in 3D last week. It kind of reminded me of the Clash of the Titans version. There really wasn't a whole lot gained from the 3D experience. It's sad, but everything has to come back to Avatar which has still been untouchable. The story line was ok, but it wasn't as good as the first 2, especially. I wasn't a huge fan of the third either. I would give the movie a B- since it did still keep my attention.
I can't wait to see Harry Potter 7 Part One this Friday! Should be amazing. I will let you know.

Jackass 3D is hilarious. Not a whole lot gained from the 3D experience but great nonetheless.

Also, I just watched Wristcutters: A love story which was really good, starring that kid from Almost Famous

Just saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1. I never read any of the books. It was good but slow for me. I know it's building up to the second part but to me it was just ok.
It's a B+ for me.
watched RED last night. i give it an A-/B+. very entertaining movie with some good action (for older actors). Comedic spots came right on time and the cast performed very well. I would recommend it!

I saw TRON: Legacy last night, and would give it a B/B- or so.
First, the good stuff. I really enjoyed seeing how they evolved the computer environment. There's enough of the signature 80s blue & orange neon colored lines to remind you of the original movie while expanding on the overall environment. There were also enough subtle references to the original, which was great to see (although I nearly cringed when the jukebox started playing a Journey song, since I thought it would be "Don't Stop Believin").
Now, the soundtrack. If you are expecting the traditional Daft Punk sound, you will be heavily disappointed (though "Derezzed" comes close). That said, if you take it as a film score rather than an electronica album, then you might be pleasantly surprised with it (as I am). To me, it reminds me of Christopher Franke (Babylon 5 score). At the very least though, it fits very well with the movie.
Unfortunately, the acting wasn't anything too special, and the movie did seem to drag on a bit in parts. The 3D effects also weren't really anything to say "wow" over, and it was the first 3D movie I actually got a headache from.
Overall though, the good outweighed the bad, but I'd say see it in 2D rather than pay the premium for the 3D version.

Tangled: 3D
The first 3D movie I saw was Monsters Vs Aliens. The 3D effects from that one and this movie is much better. The worst 3D movie I saw was Alice In Wonderland. With that out of the way...
The plot was good considering the tale is based on from what I remember was just some girl with long hair trapped in a tower and someone asking her to let down her hair. Was there more to it than that? A very good animated family movie. Sometimes I wondered if this was a Dreamworks movie for some of the fun things they put in.
The trailer is deceiving regarding the horse and the guy in a good way. Rapunzel has very big anime green eyes when no one else in the film does. The pet Rapunzel has is very good and fun. However, I felt the film was short and they could have made it even better with a longer drawn out adventure. More character development would help too I think.
Overall I give it an A- just because I think they could do so much more with each and every character.
Saw "The Green Hornet" today with DFJ.
Honestly, it was just "ok". Too much casual cursing for my tastes, especially with kids around. I know that Seth
Rogan was going for some cheap laughs, but honestly, he kinda came off as "overdoing it". Pretty hard to watch and take him even remotely seriously as a cartoon hero.
Of course the car, "The Black Beauty" steals the show along with Kato.
Honestly, this isn't a movie that I'd plan on buying on DVD... it just doesn't have that "repeat watch" quality to it (and trust me... when "I" feel that way, well... that's saying something because I'm usually pretty forgiving of most movies.)
I guess I just had hoped for more than this delivered. Still.. the car was cool.. but that just isn't enough.![]()

I just wish they had played the character straight up... without trying to go so over the top with it.

Each religion has got their own way of making you feel like a victim. The Christians say 'you are a sinner', and you better just zip up your trousers and give the money to the pope and we'll give you a room up in the hotel in the sky.

It depends on the movie for me. I hate Nic Cage in all his movies. I can't think of one movie I did like him in. Maybe Face/Off.Originally Posted by Yossarian

Solid flick, but not a kids movie. I'd say its worthy more of a PG-13 rating, simply because the overall theme of the movie is a little dark. That said, it had a few LOL moments, and did deliver a nice 'don't give up' message.

Anyone seen Battle LA yet? I've heard nothing but good stuff about it.
Saw Fast Five today with DFJ and 2 of his friends...
All I can say is... LOVED IT! If you liked the first 4, then you'll love this one (or if you hated the first 4, then just skip this one too).
IF YOU SMELLLLLLLLLL... what the ROCK.... IS... COOKIN'!!!!
BTW.. be sure to stay till after the credits roll. There is a special surprise at the end of the movie.![]()

Thor: B
I saw it over the weekend and wasn't that impressed with the plot. The events that take place on Earth didn't seem that great and most revolve around him getting his hammer and people not believing who he is. The story that takes place on Asgard and the Frost Giant realm was way more engaging and interesting. More special effects and a better plot which they should have devoted more time to.
It's a good start for the summer.
There's a post credit scene of course.
Saw Thor today and I concur with your assessment.Originally Posted by mcs328
The special effects were nice, but the Earth storyline was pretty weak. Hopefully they will make his comeback to the Avengers more eventful.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
I'm split on either C+ or B-.
I like it because it was a self contained story and plot. However it seemed like they lacked funding or something. Less special effects and CGI which can be a good thing but it just seemed cheaply made. Johnny Depp wasn't as animated as in the other movies and his lines were shorter and fewer. In fact everyone suffered from a lack of dialogue. Ian McShane as Blackbeard was an excellent character but he could of shone more with additional dialogue. This movie need more meat on the bones.
The first Pirates was the best all around. The second and third were good but it was just so long and just so much stuff. This movie is more toned down but I think they could have done much better.
Saw two movies yesterday (since this post is after midnight...)
First up.. The Hangover 2.
Very funny movie... basically a carbon copy of the first Hangover with a Asian twist. Pretty much we kinda knew what was gonna happen, but we laughed anyways watching it unfold.
Personally, I'd give it a B+ just because they did just copy the original formula of the first one and duplicated it again. Funny stuff here... go see it now and laugh along with it.
Second movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Still a pretty good movie in the same vein as it's predecessors. I'd rank it a low B. Not quite as much action as the previous ones, but still true to the spirit of the original theme (even if Orlando Bloom wasn't in it...).

Kung Fu Panda 2: B+
I liked the first one better but this one is just as good. There's a plot but it's not solid. There's more action but it suffers from the same problem as other action movies which is up close and too fast to follow. Still enjoyable.
I'm getting tired of these 3D movies however. The things in 3D are neat but distracting. There's no after movie credits so don't sit through them thinking there is.
