Went to see X-Men First Class today.

I'd give it an A- overall. Pretty good watch... and it gave some good backstory on Professor X and Magneto. The team members themselves were a bit "underutilized" although they did focus somewhat on "fleshing out" Beast's character.

I was entertained throughout the movie, however I can't quite give it "best X man" honors but it was most certainly good. I'd recommend that folks go see it, but don't stay for stuff after the credits because there were no "Easter eggs" there (kinda disappointed that they didn't give us... something in that regard.)

Saw Transformers Saturday.. and again today.

Action, action, action... Was entertained even though it ran a bit long. Would have been nice to see more involvement from the Megatron/Sentinel Prime/Optimus Prime angles however this one really did close out the series.

Sure must say that the Decepticons sure had a ton of advantage on this one... I just wish that the story could have been written with things a bit more even and whatnot, but hey, they still ran almost 2 1/2 hours with what they had.

Overall, I give it a solid B... it was entertaining especially if you just turn the ol' brain off and just enjoyed all of the explosions and eye candy from the new leading lady (since Megan Fox got the boot on this go round...)

Would you say Megan Fox or this other girl was a better actor or better eye candy? Is the action really close up where you can't enjoy it or figure who is who? I hate action movies where it's a tight shot and it's just a mess.

No one looked at either for their acting... but I must say, this new girl was really nice to look at.

Be sure to get there for the opening scene... you'll get an eyeful right there.

Very funny movie... basically a carbon copy of the first Hangover with a Asian twist. Pretty much we kinda knew what was gonna happen, but we laughed anyways watching it unfold.

Personally, I'd give it a B+ just because they did just copy the original formula of the first one and duplicated it again. Funny stuff here... go see it now and laugh along with it.
Im shocked. I liked the first one, but I dont think I laughed once in the second film.

The second one had funny moments... then it had just plain out "EWWW" moments as well.

Harsh but true. I do not recall laughing once. What "Ewww" moments are you talking about? The tranny scene? I guess I didnt find it as eeew since I was expecting it the moment they walked into the club.

should've had a couple of drinks BEFORE going to the movie to loosen your sense of humor up.

I liked the second about as much as the first. I liked the references to the first in the second that you wouldn't catch on to unless you watched the first.

The photo show at the end was hilarious and also answered the unanswered questions just like in the first one.

I look forward to number three!!!!

Tyson is a good sport. He can't sing for ****.

I like how he's "re-invented" himself in these movies. I saw an interview with him on the Ellen show, and he's really a funny funny guy.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Never read the books but saw the movies. I like it better than part 1. Somehow part 2 feels very different from part 1. Faster pace and more action. Didn't like the "end". I saw it in 3D iMax since it was the only one available. Not worth it in 3D. Maybe iMax.

    It's a solid A movie.

Green Lantern anyone? I know it was out a month ago or so, but I went to this little theater in the Adirondacks and it was playing!
Hey, for three bucks admission it was a deal.

So, I liked it. I'm not a big comic book person either, or... at all actually. But the Green Lantern kept my interest... or should I say Ryan Reynolds did? Soooooo hot.

    Quite the subjective review there...

I don't think that many of us can use this is a criteria to go watch it.

    I saw Captain America yesterday.

It was pretty good... I was entertained and it generally followed his storyline pretty well. Marvel did a good job on this one.

I'd give it an A.... just be sure to stay for the very end for the "bonus scene".

I saw Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

    Both were very good movies...

I don't want to give too much away on either, but all I can say is wow... both movies score an A with me. Go see them if you already haven't.

I went in with semi low expectations of "Planet of the Apes"...and wow, it was much better than I had thought.

I see they leave it open for a Part II, don't know how that will turn out.

    A bit of a bump,

I saw Ted over the weekend. It's got some good laughs in it, and was a nice spin on an old idea. It wasn't the funniest movie I've seen, but I wasn't disappointed in shelling out ten bucks for it. Obviously being a comedy, there's not much to be gained from seeing it in the theaters aside from atmosphere, so if you've got a group of friends with a good sense of humor I'd save it for the DVD.

    I forgot about this thread.

    The Avengers: A

Went to watch Avengers a second time since the first time the movie was interrupted by a thunderstorm. I don't remember Tony Stark being this jerky in his other movies. In the others ones, he was just the right amount of jerky. In the comics I don't think he had sense of humor at all but I like the lines he's given. He's the comic relief. Need more ScarJo. I don't like the actor for Hawkeye but I don't think he was impressive. Thor was good. Loki good. Fury good. I think there was a plot in there involving Loki but I don't think it came across very clear. The SHIELD plot was clearer. Overall it needs more Hulk. He was great and I wish he would smash more.

    Ted: B

It's like a live action Family Guy. I think if you grew up in the 80's and maybe the 90's you might appreciate the nods here and there. Yes the bear talks and people just deal with it. So no omg E.T. or Roger (American Dad) alien cover up plot involving a military kidnapping/autopsy trope. Yes there is a lot of cursing. No nudity except for one brief scene. Ample amount of jokes and funny scenes. If you remember some scenes in the commercials, then you *will* notice it was edited to make it more funny then it actually was.

    Iron Man 3: A-

Good summer action movie. Good plot twist. Surprisingly bad acting/scriptwriting regarding Tony Starks anxiety attack.

    Star Trek: Into Darkness
    General Audience Members: A-
    Star Trek Fans: C+

If you only saw the reboot and this movie then great. If you're a fan, you're going to be a wee disappointed.

    Thats pretty generous.

I give it a C+, but I cant get into it without spoilers.

You're probably right but I'm grading on the expectation that Iron Man 3 needed my brain to be turned off. I expected much more from Star Trek as a fan of the shows and past Trek movies. Instead I had to turn my brain off for that one too.

Im going to write below in white. Unless you want to read Ironman3 spoilers, do not highlight.

Im not a super huge fan who has read the comics, but I think making The Mandarin turn out to be an actor and controlled by that other guy has ruined the work of the previous writers, ruined this movie, as well as ultimately forcing a reboot down the line.

    Previous work:
I havnt watched IronMan2 lately, but the name "10 Rings" was mentioned throughout the entire 1st movie. It is the group run by the Mandarin in the comics, and by changing the mandarin the way that they did, for the story to fit, now Aldrich Killian has to be the man behind the group in movie 1.

    Ruined Iron Man 3:
So let look at our real villian, Aldrich Killian. What is his great motivator? Does he want to rule the world? No Does he want money? No Was there some great tragedy that he is trying to right? No

Was he simply snubbed by Tony when he asked him to invest in his company? Yes

Well thats a pretty shitty reason to become a super villain. With that creation storyline, a more appropriate villianish goal would have been to make $ and buy out Stark industries, or somehow bankrupting tony.

    Forcing a reboot:
The mandarin is Ironmans most powerful enemy, and now he has been downgraded to a drunk actor who was financed by a villian with no motive. You just took what might be the most successful marvel movie series so far, with what is probably the perfect person cast for the role (robert downy) and you dont have anywhere to go from there.

I've read the comics and I agree with you on all those points. The action in Iron Man 3 was way better then Star Trek.
