Thumbs up Man of the House

I saw Man of the House tonight at AMC MV 20. It was entertaining and funny where it needed to be. For us guys there was plenty of T 'N A (5 cheerleaders running around the house in barely anything...) and women will probably like it as well. I really like Tommy Lee Jones as an actor and wondered how he would do in a comedy. Pretty good in my opinion.

This is not a great movie, but is definitely good for some light-hearted laughs. I give it a B+. --Ben Dogg

    Thumbs up T.L. Jones

I'm glad you liked Hitch EsDee Loco. Most people seemed to like it, but of course not everyone will.

On the Tommy Lee Jones thing, I agree with Navyones with one exception. The Missing was one of the worst movies I've ever seen (boring...) right up there with Galaxy Quest, LXG, and a few others. GG, I liked Batman Forever okay. --Ben Dogg

I'm going to go a bit off the beaten track here and give an opinion on a recent DVD release..... NausicaA: Valley of the Wind.

My brother and I sat down to watch this one, and like a lot of Studio Ghibli's work, this movie was definately very enjoyable. It does take a bit to get into the show, but once you do, it's very hard to stop watching without wondering what will happen next. We watched the English dub, and although we didn't compare it to the Japanese version, it seemed very well done (with quite a few well-known voice actors like Patrick Stewart and Uma Thurman.

As for the animation, it was definately along the style of Miyazaki's other work, and Disney did a reasonable job at cleaning up this 80's movie (although admittedly there is a fair amount of edge-enhancement).

4 out of 5 stars -- Highly recommended if you liked movies like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.

    Thumbs up The Pacifier review

Indeed a very good, family movie. Didn’t hear a curse word. Just a hint of violence on the fitting screens, but kids will see more violence looking at Teen Titans on Cartoon network than in this movie.
We enjoyed it a lot. A+ family recommended.

I absolutely LOVED the trailer for this movie, and based on your opinions, I guess this is a movie I'll just have to check out.

    Hmm Be Cool

I got tix for tonight's screening from a friend so here goes!

I didn't like this movie as much as everyone else in the theater. I think the fact that I rented Get Shorty last night screwed it all up for me. In my opinion, Get Shorty was a much better film. It was a serious movie with some humor mixed in, and it wasn't full of blood and violence like Reservoir Dogs.

Be Cool went more for the laughs than having a serious storyline. Don't get me wrong, the laughs were pretty good, but it just didn't compare to the first film. I think that If I hadn't seen Get Shorty I would have just taken this one at face value and probably given it a B+ or A-, but I am settling on a B. I'm sure others will feel differently, but that's my take. I'll be interested to see what Saxon says about it! --Ben Dogg

    Thumbs up Be Cool

I haven't seen 'Get Shorty' yet, and someone told me not to see it before I see 'Be Cool'. So probably that's why I liked the movie. I see the movie as a movie not to be taken seriously but just to have fun with it. I enjoyed the antics of every character including the dead ones. The message that Cedric the Entertainer gave was nice and true. And the Outcast guy was funny as hell trying to be a gangster.
And come on BDogg a movie with Aerosmith can’t be wrong. (Just kidding A)

PS. Stay for the ending credits.

As Bendogg, I also went to see Be Cool. I also have not see the movie Get Shorty as of yet....
I am not a real fan of John Travolta, he is okay...but i knew some of the other stars on the show..... I also had read an article about Christina Milian the Cuban American singer. She says in her article how Travolta is such a sweet famous person...she says he is always singing. Also Milian is only 5'3" and standing next to Uma Thurman was like 6' tall.....Milian thought she was a midget short like Danny DeVito....they were about the 2 smallest ppl in the show.....
It was a okay show....got alot of laughter and i rate it to be a B.... it was a mixture of comedy/crime and gangster. I heard the audience roaring sometimes....the guy who sat next to me could not sit still from laughing so hard....
I saw someone in the audience receive one of 93.3 T-Shirts....wonder if they got it for me.....LOLOLOL

Lightbulb Proposed rating system for movies

Hey...how's this for a rating system:

    (A) I'd pay full price to see this one
    (B) I'd pay matinee prices to see this one
    (C) I'd certainly rent it when it's on DVD
    (D) I'll wait till it comes on TV to watch it
    (F) I wouldn't even watch it on TV on a rainy, lazy afternoon

    (E) is omited 'cause they don't usually have those in school grades.

I guess that A+ would mean you'd even pay for a friends ticket to go, and A- is that you'd try to get away with the student discount, and stuff like that...

    The Jacket

    (Thanks 90.3 for the handouts)

This was a very intriguing mystery about a guy, Jack, coming from the 1st Gulf War after being thought dead in the camp hospital.

On being released, Jack is left as a wanderer. While wandering along the road on a snowy afternoon, he helps a little girl and her drunken mom with their broken down car. The little girl is intrigued with his dogtags and asks for (and receives) them.

Later he hitches a ride with a guy who ends up shooting a cop and leaving Jack with all the evidence. The trial sends him to the insanasylum on the grounds that the Gulf War left his mind messed up and that's why he can't explain how the cop died.

At the center, a doctor uses experimental treatments to try to get people to confess: drug them and put them in a morge shelf for a while (without telling the patient why.) While in there, Jack conjures up images of the future (15 years later) and meets up with the girl who has his dog tags (although he learns that a bit later.)

The rest of the story is his several jumps into to the future and collecting information that may change the "present." (I'll hold off on revealing the ending since it might spoil the rest.)

Overall, I'm not sure how to rank it since I don't usually see pyschological thrillers. However, I'd say that it held my interest all the way through and the ending tied up most of the loose ends pretty will. I'd give it a B+ on my rating scale (I'd invite a friend with me at matinee prices, although it's probably best seen at night so you can continue to ponder the meaning of it.)

Thumbs up Fred's Be Cool Review

Fred gave Be Cool his standard 3.5 Stars and said that if you're attracted to the movie you'll enjoy it (which means not a lot!). He did enjoy it though. I just figured I'd pass that along.

Dogopoly, that rating system sounds pretty good! I like grades better than stars, as you can't always equate stars to grades (like 5 Stars=A, 4=B...)

    Jacket
Well its about like Dogopoly said it was....and this is not my review of it but one i found,
    Drama, Romance, Thriller and Crime/Gangster
1 hr. 42 min. A military veteran returns to his native Vermont suffering from bouts of amnesia. When he is accused of murder and lands in an asylum, a well-meaning doctor puts him on a heavy course of experimental drugs, restrains him in a jacket-like device, and locks him away in a body drawer of the basement morgue. The process sends him on a journey into the future, where he can foresee his death (but not who did it or how) in four days' time. Now the only question that matters is: can the woman he meets in the future save him?

MPAA Rating: R for violence, language and brief sexuality/nudity.

It kept me watching it...but it was sorta of weird and the ending especially..... i would have not paid to see this movie...i would have waited until it was on television....give it about a D on dopopoly scale.... this is only my thoughts of the movie....

And these shows have to get more comfortable seats...it seemed like we were there for a long time....
The guy that sat next to me thought it was a boring movie, he kept asking his girlfriend why they didn't just leave....so everyone has a different thought on movies....

    Be Cool review

Watched it last night. I rate this movie:
    (A) I'd pay full price to see this one

It was really funny! I loved Get Shorty and I loved this film. One gag I loved was how in the first film he made a minivan seem cool. This time he drove around a little Honda Insight the "cadillac of hybrids". It was hillarious when a bunch of gangstas with Hummers pulled up and made fun of his ride. He notified them the Honda got about 53mpg and their rides probably got about 12mpg and one of the gangtas corrected him they got 9mpg.

    Thumbs up Saxon's "Jacket" Review

Good, Surfer, I'm glad you enjoyed it and were able to use those tickets. It's always an extra bonus when you get free tix to see a movie that you end up liking enough to have paid full price for!

Saxon gave The Jacket 4 Stars (which is about the highest review he gives!). I was surprised to hear how much he enjoyedit. He said it was more of a psychological thriller and not too scarry. I'll still be skipping it, but it's good to know he liked it. --Ben Dogg

I went to see "The Pacifier" tonight at AMC Mission Valley. I would give it about 3.5 - 4.0 stars. It started slow on the comedy end, but it had everybody in the theater laughing before it was over.

    Thumbs up Robots the Movie

Loved the movie. Very funny stuff with a good message. The CGI was very very good. (It had a little of Pixar programming in it). Lots of details on the movie and funny things going on the background. It makes you want to see it again. The scrip is not as original as The Incredibles so don’t compare this movie with that one, but never the less you and yours are sure to enjoy this movie.

Definitely an A , according to dogopoly rating system. See it as #1 on opening weekend.

For you that were there today, go to the official Robots site and play with your kids.

Or to cast your vote on who got the skills at dancing between Napoleon Dynamite vs. Fender

PS. Heads up Ice Age 2:The Meltdown coming soon. Well maybe not that soon it will be out on March 31, 2006. (The CGI on this one looks amazing)

I though that I will be the first one in line there, but someone beat me to it. See ya next time.

From the looks of the theater last night, "The Pacifier" will beat "Robots" for the #1 position this weekend. We will see Monday morning though.

    this thread

    Hey Ben,
I hate to interupt a discussion of current movies to bring up a DVD I saw. Should we keep the DVD rentals in this thread or should we make a seperate thread for DVD Rentals?

By the way everyone, Ben's the coolest - even more than a penguin's toes!
