Spedia Anybody?

I'm surprise that there's no mention of Spedia on the b-board. In my opinion I think it's one of the best surf bar around. You get a point for every ad you view (an ad per minute on average). The pay rate so far is around 15 cents for every 20 points, so if you surf 3 hours a day, everyday for a month, you'll rack up 5500 points easily. At 15 cents per 20 points...that's 40 bucks right there, and that's without referrals. The best thing is that you can rack up as many as points as you can. The only bad thing I see about Spedia is that you have to be actively surfing, but isn't most surf-bars like that? Anyway, if you going to sign up, please use 252229 as the referral ID or go to

Out of the eight programs I am signed up for, I would say that spedia is near the top. But, there are a few things I don't like:

1) You have to visit a new URL every minute (can be a different page on same sight).
2) You have be surfing only (which is ok)
3) Here's the biggie, it looks like it takes a lot of CPU power. I'm still looking at verifying this, but I'm running Win2000, with several "banners" on a big desktop. I recently noticed that things were going a bit slow. I checked what was using up my CPU time. Spedia was about half the time as Internet Explorer. That seems quite high.

Spedia is a fine program, but just might not be that good when using lots of programs at the same time.

I hope to publish a lot of this kind of info. What do you think?

Every pay-to-surf program has its drawbacks. Spedia is no exception. You just have to find ways to get around it (wink) or ways to make it more bearable. As for your comment on Spedia and the resources it uses, I only notice a 2% decrease in system resources when I start up Spedia. 2% is not a lot. Besides, I only use it in conjunction with my web browsers and a couple of the other pay-to-surf banners. Maybe you're using an older version of Spedia because I remember the older versions being very unstable. Well, that's my $.02 on that issue.

Publishing any kind of information, as long as it's done honestly and with as little bias as possible, is helpful. So if you are willing to take your time to publish reviews for the benefit of others, then more power to you and I'm sure people will appreciate it.

Thanks for the feedback. I have checked out epinions, but do you really think you can make money at it? I like the concept, and have found some useful things there, but I did not go away thinking I could actually make some money.

As for Spedia, sure enough it does use more CPU power than most programs, but I have not noticed a significant problem with it. I run many pay programs at once, under Win2000. Spedia uses up 4 times more CPU power than AllAdvantage (2nd most program so far). The others also being tested is ProfitZone (Desktop Dollars), UtopiAd, CashSurfers, and I was testing GoToWorld.

The problems I was having is a pause after loading a new page of around 5 to 10 seconds. This was getting very annoying. I couldn't even close a window after switching to a new URL. I thought maybe having so many browsers was causing info to be sent to each GPTS program. In the end, I closed the 10 or so browser windows I had opened, and restarted IE, and now things are smooth again.

So, looks like maybe it was just Microsoft code after all

One more question for you all:

What is the maximum number of PTS programs you have used at one time?

i've run 8 before, but its not very stable. I think 3 or 4 is a good number. by the way, i have 128 ram, so it depends on that too.

I agree with the stability problem (under 95/98). But under Windows 2000 it's been fine so far (non stop, no rebooting for over a week, with 5 PTS bars at a time).

As for RAM, I'm running with 128MB, but have an extra 128 stick to throw in if need be.

This slows my computer down way too much...guess its time for a new computer
