So I Take My 6 Year-old To a Concert on Saturday...

We had two tickets to Jimmy Buffett on Saturday. Being new to the area, we don't know anyone well enough with whom we'd be comfortable leaving the baby (no such qualms with the 9 or 6 year-old), so my dear wife stayed home and I took our 6 year-old.

Jimmy still puts on a good show (more of an event than a concert) and we had a great time, though she liked the Springsteen concert much more (she loves to dance).

The only problem is that I can't stop her from walking around the house singing, "Why don't we get drunk and screw."

They did it as a big sing-along on the video screens. While she doesn't know what screw means, she knows she shouldn't be saying it based on our reaction to her singing.

Note to any parents taking their kids to Buffett concerts in the future: take a snack break during that song.

That's her favorite song and the one we continue to encourage her to sing.

    Oh, that is too awsome!

Not that she is singing "why don't we get drunk and screw" but that she appreciates great music!

As long as she keeps it at home and doesn't sing it at school, a friends house who has a prude for a mom, etc, I think you have done well

Yeah... You should be fine as long as it doesn't become her first grade class anthem.

There was a time when Jimmy Buffet was considered as one who "pushed the envelope." He's even had his stuff censored.

Now, he's become wholsome family entertainment. Go figure. How times have changed.

I have taken my daughter to 4 concerts since she was born and she is just turning two. I think exposing them to it is great just be on the look out for certain songs that you take a snack or bathroom break during to prevent them from belting out the ones that are good songs but not appropriate for them to sing in public.

Good Music is for all. And Concerts are the best place to listen to the music.

How old? We took this daughter and her older sister (almost 8 and just 5 at the time) to see Springsteen and they've also seen musicals on Broadway (along with the assorted ball games, Ice Shows and the such). My wife and I think having the opportunity to expose them to such events helps them to grow. But, hey, that's just us.

JB is a great concert. I've seen him a few times. I really want to go when he comes around this year. I just found out a guy that I play soccer with worked with him on "Don't Stop The Carnival" .
