that's a very good price.. I just picked up the same model a couple months ago for $99 AR, which is what you typically see it for

question? how is the playback quality? does it look pixelated at all? or does it look like real time cable streaming?

I picked on of these up yesterday. Seems to work real nice, I'm impressed so far. Just a heads up, you have to have the Tivo service for 30days to get the rebate. If anyone wants to use me for the rewards deal that would be cool.

That's a good price for a new 40hr box. If you're looking for more capacity, the other options are to buy a refurb from Tivo themselves (same warranty, etc. as a new box and the rebate's good, too) or a Humax 80hr for $99 after rebate, also from Tivo:

I bought an 80hr refurb about a month ago, and it's been doing real well. I've been paying for the service from the $40 or so I'm saving a month with Vonage.

The only thing to remember is that the capacities quoted are at the lowest quality, which is completely unwatchable to me. Even turning things up one notch to medium quality is pretty good for day-to-day stuff, but you get about 60% of the quoted capacity on these things. At best quality, you're looking at less than 50%.

The missus has fallen in love with it, and she's had no problems figuring out how to use the thing, which is an accomplishment in itself.

I have one of those myself - paid $80 AR from Best Buy. Better than the Humax units from what I've read. I run mine in one of the higher quality modes (I alternate depending on what I am recording) and it looks fine on a CRT HDTV set.
