Fly to Seoul

How would you guys go about buying a ticket from the US to seoul, south korea? I know that when you buy tix to India, its best to use a travel agent because web tickets are far more expensive. I need some asian brainpower on this one. Orbitz gives me about $1200. I'm planning for a summer time vacation. Leaving from boston,ma. THX

boston? i dunno. i usually found the best fares with singapore from SFO ($800 RT in june). maybe you can find cheap roundtrip to the SF area (southwest, jetblue) and then take singapore from there.

Try the asian airlines on their websites. Try eva (evaair.com), cathay pacific, singapore air, Korean Air, Malaysian Air. That will get you over to the Asia Pacific area. From there you can probably get a connecting flight to Korea.

I've found that travel agents are worthless. You can find better tickets online with schedules you want.

Oh and Asian flights usually leave from LAX, SFO, Vancouver, and New York. There are weird ones from other cities, but most come from those starting points.

if you're gonna fly to korea, try flying asiana airways/airlines/airplanes choose one...I forget...

those fly directly to icheon korea, really close to seoul. The service is comparable to eva. And I really like eva...I fly them all the time...HOT flight crew...the women ones...

Try Priceline first - if your plans are flexible - because their prices generally can't be beaten and they fly on United Airlines metal, which is a super nice 777.

From Boston, you're SOL if you want to fly Korean or Asiana. Neither services Boston anymore directly, so usually you have to fly with a codeshare partner either to JFK, NYC, or somewhere out west (generally LAX or SFO) and their prices aren't the cheapest either.

From many of my trans-Pacific flights I strongly prefer United. Their planes are usually the best which should matter the most for someone who's bracing himself for a 14-hour flight. However, United does NOT serve ICN directly from the east coast so you'll either need a stopover someplace west coast or in Narita, Tokyo. Pricewise it doesn't beat anything else they've got to offer.

For travel agencies, typically their costs don't end up being much different from what you can get online. Priceline is your best bet, and if that doesn't work out for you, I'd try using www.mobissimo.com which is a metasearch engine. I wound up getting a ticket for my mom for around 850 incl. tax from airfare.com, which I found through mobissimo.

Try flying in June because in July and August it's super peak season over there and you likely won't find anything for under 1,000.

#3 Then buy the ticket direct from the vendor aa.com ual.com eva.com so on...

Food for thought, from experience, Asiana and Korean have a tad bit wider seats than United of Northwest do. Like AlpineJay said, buy your tickets soon, as the prices climb quick and high during the summer season.

When you leave Seoul, use the Korean City Air Terminal, located at COEX in Samseong-dong. It'll cost you about $10/10,000 Won but you'll get to clear the immigration check in a breeze at the airport.
