    Surge Protector recommendations

Ok, so we need a couple of new surge protectors. We don't have much money, so keep that in mind. Any ideas of what brand, where to buy, how much they are, etc?

    TIA

Honestly... if you really want to protect your PCs... get a UPS (Uninteruptible Power Supply) instead of a surge protector.

I've seen UPS by various companies for as little as $39.99.

The big thing about a UPS versus a Surge Protector is that most UPS will actually "clean" the power so that your PC isn't getting any bad electrical spikes and out of phase power (i.e. dirty power).

Honestly, they are worth the extra cash like an "insurance policy" for your equipment.

However, if you still can't justify a UPS... I'd at least look for a surge protector from either Tripp Lite, APC, or another well know power specialist. I wouldn't trust my PC to be on some "el Cheapo" Walmart $7.99 power strip... that's for dayuum sure.

    Df,
She needs them for all the outlets cuz of their electrical problem and that could get expensive.

    Jenny,
You should buy the wall outlets with the surge protectors on them from home depot or what hardware store is nearbye. A UPS for your computers and electronics. Surge protectors for lights and stuff.

If you have a frys, then they always have sales on them. I have a few APC surge protectors and UPS. Also, Staples and the other office supply companies blow them out every once in a while for cheap.

No Frys here. I'll look around the office supply places. And we are really just going to get 1 at this point, for my computer. I'll look at the UPS's, DF, thanks. I didn't realize what they were, I guess. heh and nah, we knew we wouldn't want to go el cheapo. Just wondered if one brand was extremely better than others or not. I found a few from Tripp-Lite that might work. I'll keep looking.

    Thanks guys.

More or less... I was just addresessing the PC. And I still say that all PCs should have a UPS on them... that is... if you wanna really protect them from the "bad stuff" out there.

Last time I got an APC UPS for $30 after MIR and I have been using it with no problem. I suggest APC UPS or surge protectors.
