i absolutely love this show, but part of me reluctant to "commit" myself to it completely, so to speak, because of the feeling that they're just writing it as they go along. i'm sure they had some concrete plotlines fleshed out when the show began, but they've incorporated so many mysterious things that it makes me wonder if they have an idea how they're gonna explain them all acceptably.

for example: that one guy who was in the camp, but wasn't on the plane's manifest (i don't remember his name). he kidnapped charlie and claire and all that, and when they finally confronted him, and we the audience were about to learn why he did what he did and who he was, BOOM! he gets blown away by charlie. can you say, "copout!"

other than that, i enjoy the show quite a bit, and i look forward to next season. when all is said and done, tho, they better not disappoint...

It's all about the boy.. the polar bear was there because the kid was reading a comic book that had a polar bear in it. (Remember the step-dad said that weird things happened around the boy). They took the french lady's baby because they thought it was the boy they were looking for, which is the same reason they were interested in Claire.

I thought the final episode showed that they hadn't been writing as they went and that the 'others' aren't the french lady's imagination. The only thing I'm still confused about is the link between Hugo and the numbers on the hatch.

So you think the boy is the one they've been after all along?

You mean Hurley, right? The fat guy? He and Jin are my two favorite characters so far.

i'm curious what specifically you saw that led you to believe they hadn't been writing as they went (if that sounds confrontational at all, it's not meant to be ). it seems to me... oh wait... waaaaaait a minute... i think i get it...

but i still think they're makin it up as they go.

i can't stand jin, but that's mainly because his korean is god-AWFUL. not that you would know that, but yeah, it's pretty stinktastic. i do like hurley too tho.

Does he have a terrible accent or something? What about Sun? Is her Korean ok?

jin's accent is reaaaally bad. like, even-his-parents-must-have-been-born-in-the-states bad. at first, i thought sun's accent was pretty bad too (and i still think it sounds like less than fluent korean), but my mother informed me that she was the star of a korean movie that came out a few years ago called Shiri (you may have either seen the movie, or noticed it on the shelf at blockbuster), which was, appropriately, a pretty "shiri" movie.

    EDIT:
oh, and don't even get me started on the alleged koreans in their backstory, or that white guy from the season finale. those folks are all in a whole other category. at least i can usually make out what jin is trying to say; with these other cats, they might as well be speaking klingon.

Yup.. that was why the 'others' weren't on the island anymore after the raft left.. they were looking for the raft. When Locke/Jack blew the hatch on the island the 'others' on the boat started to head back to the island, until Michael shot the flare on the raft.

Yup.. his name is Hugo, but Hurley is his nickname, but there were two references on the last episode to his real name, Hugo. Plus he said his real name was Hugo when trying to convince Jack that they needed to do the census.

Wow...I like your "others" theory. That seems pretty logical. But are they just pirates/kidnappers? Yarrrrrrrr.

As for Jin, my preference for his character has nothing to do with his (apparently) poorly-spoken Korean. I just like his backstory.
