Remotely connecting to XP Machine

I am filling the boards with questions lately but this one I know someone knows for sure. I want to be able to control a PC remotely, while the user is still using it and can see what I am doing. With my Macs I can connect using the VPN in Apple Remote Desktop. If I connect using the Windows XP Remote Desktop, the user is forced to log off and cannot see what I am doing. I would like them to see what I am doing. Any suggestions?

RealVNC - not only will this do what you need, but it's free. Download free version here.

The user can also send you a remote assistance request and you will then be able to see the same screen they see. You can also 'offer' remote assistance if you are an administrator on their box. This link provides details at the bottom of the page:

There is a bit of configuration that must be done before hand, but once it is done it doesn't have to be done again. We use this at my work a lot.

A utility we use at work is called Gencontrol.

It essentially connects to the default Administrative share, installs a VNC server, and then connects to it. When you are done, it removes the VNC server from the target machine. This is nice because you don't have a VNC server running all of the time on every machine you want to be able to control.

Awesome information everyone thanks. I tried RealVNC but couldn't get it running quite right on a limited account. I like how Gencontrol and Dameware works. I will give Gencontrol a chance first, and then dameware if it doesn't quite meet our expectations.
