    My Dad's 1950 Olds Convertible

I was taking some pictures of my Dad's latest project for submittal to a poster maker for 1950's Oldsmobiles. I thought I'd share one here:

    I think over again
    My small adventures, my fears.
The small ones that seemed so big,
For all the vital things I had to get and to reach.

And yet there is only one great thing, the only thing:

To live to see the great day that dawns,
And the light that fills the world.

It actually has a hydraulic lift to get it that low. Normally when driving it is higher. If you guys want, I'll put together a small group of pictures showing the car and the engine as well (a 3-carb J-2 engine).

I have been using Ray's uploader and he's been hosting a lot of pr0n lately (as he said in another post), so that could be the reason.

    It came through. Very nice.

That's one of the first totally restored lowriders I have seen which uses the original hubcaps and whitewalls instead of blackwalls and chrome wheels or mags.

You should post some pictures of dear old dad's other projects as well. Way too many cool cars to only show one.

Wow, a J2! Love that it is an "old school" mild custom rather than a "by the numbers" resto.

Go dig up a copy of Jackie Brenston's song "Rocket 88" from the early '50s:

    http://www.hoyhoy.com/brenston.htm

"You women have heard of jalopies
You've heard the noise they make
Well let me introduce my new Rocket 88
Yes it's great, just won't wait
    Everybody likes my Rocket 88
    Baby we'll ride in style
    Moving all along.

V8 motor and this modern design
Black convertible top and the gals don't mind
Sporting with me riding all 'round town for joy
    (Blow your horn Raymond, blow)

Step in my Rocket and don't be late
Baby we're pulling out about half past 8
Going 'round the corner and get a fifth
Everybody in my car's gonna take a little nip
Move on out, boozing and cruising along"

    http://www.songfacts.com/detail.lasso?id=432

Put the other pics up! Love to see the motor, etc.

    Is it Hydramatic or stick?

    Hydramatic

I'll post some of the additional pictures, including some close-ups of the trim and engine a little later today.

Here are some other shots of my Dad's 1950 Oldsmobile (with a J2 motor):

I'll have to dig up images I have of my Dad's other cars, including his 1957 Oldsmobile Model 88, '32 Ford five-window sedan (with 1967 corvette 327 V-8 motor), and his 1940 Ford Deluxe Sedan.

Man, that is one beautiful ride! Too bad they don't make cars like that anymore - more like art than machines.

That reminds me that I need to try to make it to the Meadowbrook Concours d’Elegance this year. Not quite as big as the one in Pebble Beach, but a lot of the same cars make it over here. Simply the most amazing cars you'll ever see - I can't even imagine the value of some of them.

Gorgeous! That sucker must make some noise cruising down the blvd. with those side exit pipes behind the front wheels.
