Do you tip movers?
I have movers coming to move my stuff. I'm not sure if I have to tip, and if so, how much and to whom (there are two sets of people doing the move, one here and another at destination).
Any thoughts?

I would, and I would hook them before they start moving your stuff. Happy movers = less broken goodies.Originally Posted by gear02
Yes and we tip before they start the job also.

Be sure to offer them some beverage and maybe a snack too.
I wouldn't tip 'em... but cool beverages sounds like a winning plan to me.![]()

No way will I ever tip someone BEFORE they do their job. Hire respectable movers and don't worry about it. Make sure that you offer them food and drink multiple times during the move. Tip them if they do an acceptable to good job. Anything less and they only get a glass of water and some saltines.
My movers stopped at BK on the way so I got them all whatever they wanted... not a single "thank you". Their end-of-job cash tip went "bye-bye"
Dyin' ain't much of a living, boy
It depends on the number of movers and the size of the job. Two guys, six guys? Side job, working for a moving company? Lot of stuff to move, not much stuff?Originally Posted by attgig
I think I tend to tip on the high end, so if we're talking 2 guys like Gear is, I'd probably bump anywhere from $20 - $50 per person. I'd throw in some cheap food and drink too (Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, McD's).
Tipping isn't an exact science. I could tip my guys beforehand and they could tear my stuff up; you could tips yours after and have a perfect move. I'll take my chances with the upfront stuff, though...
well not 50 bucks each....and it was just to move and install a stacked washer/dryer and a stove. But if I were to move I only have a condo and not a whole lot of stuff...it would still be 50 bucks total.
Heh... hire your friends as movers and all it costs you is a couple six packs of beer and a large pizza.![]()

True, but if you sue them becaue they screw up, you're a jerk. If you sue a moving company, you're a good businessman.Originally Posted by DarkFury

And for the most part... you generally don't sue your friends who are pitching in to help you move (even if they break something)

Whenever I have something large delivered (ie: bed, l-shaped couch, fridge, etc) I have always offered beverage and snacks while they are moving and then tip them depending on how long they take to setup/cleanup.
if they break their arms/legs... they did it on their own time.Originally Posted by bachviet

According to etiquette professionals, you are supposed to tip only $5 - 10 for movers and it suggest providing snacks and drinks.
Welcome my son, welcome to the machine...Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been....

I don't know if there is a rule of etiquette for tipping a mover, but I certainly think that if anybody does a good service for you then you should reward them for that.
Okay, I wrote this then found this link... I will call it the 'Dummies Guide for Tipping". Yes, you are suppose to tip the movers. Check this link out.

Sounds like you've thought hard about this... therefore I won't ever ask YOU to be a mover in my house, should I ever decide to move.Originally Posted by bachviet
