Each religion has got their own way of making you feel like a victim. The Christians say 'you are a sinner', and you better just zip up your trousers and give the money to the pope and we'll give you a room up in the hotel in the sky.

Just do a google on "freeware duplicate file finder" and you'll find plenty of options. Here's one: http://www.softaward.com/6981.html

EasyCleaner searches for duplicate files.

I would just use the Windows search function. Search for *.mp3 files. Once you have the list sort buy size. This should put duplicate songs together even if they have slightly different names. Then delete accordingly. Why download and install extra crap if you don't really need to?![]()

Yea, i do what Merlin does, that also helps with the songs that you have labeled incorrectly, that way it will line up by size next to the song (with the same size that is) that you have labeled correctly.

iTunes will let you...Edit -> Show Duplicate Songs...and it shows not only the songs, but also the id tags and the filenames (if you choose to view them under the View Options).
There are options in other programs too (Winamp 5.1x lets you "remove duplicates" but doesn't do anything but clear them from the playlist/media library.
I searched for a long time for a freeware duplicate search program before finally installing iTunes just to use it to delete duplicates...oddly enough, since using iTunes, i've grown to love everything else about it (aside from clearing my library of duplicates).

thing i dont like about itunes is that "ituneshelper.xxx" and "ipodhelper.xxx" run in the background, even when itunes isnt open.

True but with a system nowadays (512mb ram+) who cares about 20mb ram being taken up?Originally Posted by modena
iTunes may have a bloated gui (although it makes up for it in ease of use and organization) and the aforementioned "2 background apps" (many people also hate) but I still think it's the best audio app out there.
The Google desktop search works wonders also.
