    XP Bluescreen errors

I have an XP machine here that keeps randomly generating blue screen errors with a message of "An attempt was made to write to read-only memory. The system has been shut down to prevent any problems."

I've tried reformatting, and I've tried running memory diagnostics but to no avail -- the error keeps on happening.

    Any ideas?

Have you moved your computer around recently? Make sure your ram is seated properly and all your cables are connected securely. If they are, then I'd guess you probably have corrupted ram and need to replace the dimms, but that's just a wild shot in the dark.

    Computer hasn't really been moved.

I also figured a memory diagnostic running for a few hours might have helped determine if it was indeed a memory error, but it returned no errors.

If you've already reloaded, it's almost certainly a hardware problem. Is your machine still under warranty?

My guess is Power Supply or poor connection.

This doesn't appear TOO helpful, but who knows: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...d_stp_ovrp.asp
