iTunes - In Network Sharing

My manager recently emailed me and said we can't share our iTunes libraries because it uses too much network bandwidth. I am in an office with about 5 shares and 40 employees. We have a 100mbit network...

I am smart enough not to start a fight, but I am curious what "overhead" is required for 1 person to listen to my music. Or for me to stream one of their shares.

my guess is its slightly higher than the encoded bit rate.

Ribitch is right, it will take whatever the bitrate is plus a little bit extra for overhead and buffering....so in other words: not a lot of bandwidth is needed for the average 128bitrate MP3/AAC file.

In fact, if you have a switch based network, this activity shouldn't have much of any impact on your network's performance because it's not taking away from your up and downstreams outside of the intranet.
(Someone with more network experience might be required to appropriately assess the accuracy of the forementioned statement, as I've only taken a couple semesters of Cisco back in highschool)
