    gtech or g-timer?

has anyone used these? I would like to get one for when my car arrives, but the price on the RR from gtech is kinda high. I cant see myself using it on a PC, so i am more inclined to get the SS version, but i would like all of the features. I cant see myself using it all the time either, so the is looking like the way to go. However, I havent found much on the accuracy.

I've never used one, but what appears to be the older model sells on ebay for about 30 dollars. It doesn't do the pretty graphs like the new ones, but still gives you most the other information.

Car and Driver did a pretty comprehensive comparison of a bunch of timers. You may want to check out their website.

Thanks, sizemic - I knew I had seen such an animal in one of the enthusiast mags recently. I just couldn't remember which one! I get C&D, R&T, Automobile and Autoweek, so it is tough to keep track...

looks like the ss is the one for me. I am going to be ordering a K&N cold air intake, and a diablosport tuner for my car, and a friends, so i will throw this into the mix. hopefully i can get some sort of discount.

Peter Egan's writing makes up for many of that mag's shortcomings. I'd subscribe to read his monthly column alone.

My dad has paid for C&D and R&T for me for Christmas every year since I left home at 18.

Oh..it's just funny how some people are dedicated to certain magazines.

I prefer Car & Driver and Car Craft to Road & Track and Hot Rod

The only one I really don't care for and never read is Motor Trend.

So are you saying that only DODGE owners get new tires put on their vehicles and have their oil changed? Hmmmm????

If you READ you woulda saw that I said "SERVICED" and not "REPAIRED". My Dodge has NEVER been in for a repair to date. She runs like a top.

    Reading is fundamental.

well, i decided to splurge and looked on ebay. I was able to find the gtech competition pro. It was the previous generation, but the latest firmware makes it virtually identical to the RR version. The only differences are a blue display instead of the amber, and a black housing instead of the silver.

Because it was used, I was able to get it for a few bucks cheaper than the SS version. I had bid on a few SS models, and those were selling for approx $175. I had seen new ones going for 189, so to me it wasnt worth the $14 savings.

DF, spin it anyway you want. They do much more than changing oil in a service department. The service department in many dealers is the same as teh repair department.
