New pc time cant make up mind!

well, it's summer, and i'll be getting back home soon, and getting a job.
    my old specs(current)
    AMD Athlonxp 3200 400fsb
Asrock (forget exact name) mobo that's really cool and can support 754 cards with bridge card, also 4 gigs dual channel ram, that's the main reason i bought it
    1024 megs Ultra ram 2x512
    MSI 5900XT 128
    Seagate ata 160 gig
    8x dvd burner
    Windows xp pro

Ok, i've thought it over a lot, looked at prices ect. and i think i've got a good plan.
    Aspire X-Qpack case
MSI RS480M2-IL ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 Chipset Socket 939 MicroATX
1or2 gigs pc4000 ddr crucial ballistix(found great deal pm me if intrested)
CPU: i cant decide, i want a 939(obviously) maybe 3700 or better, including fxs, but i dont want to pay more then 500 for cpu, i'm only 16!$!$!$
video card i'm torn here too. i want the asus 6600gt, but now after reading ledgendkiller's review, i may want the 6800gt, or even an ultra if the right deal comes around. i cant really pay more then 350. video card is pci-x, and nVidia is a must as i am a die hard nVidia fan i'd be happy to buy a used one if anyone wants to sell
plextor, nec, or samsung 16x burner, doesnt have to be dual layer.
    2 80 or 120 sata hds
1 other small thing i cant make up my mind on: mouse. i cant decide between the logitec mx518 or the razor diamondback. they are both geared twords gamers, but i'm leaning twords(dang how do you spell that?!?!) the razor due to their experience. corded mouse is a must becasue wireless ones lag, and pretty much all i do is game. Any reccomendations would be great, and if anyone wants to sell any used parts listed let me know
this athlon system for some reason is just going so slow, and i'm tired of it and love new pc stuff! any of the parts is listed as my current system are for sale.

Nate: I'd stay with your current setup which is good. $ave your money until you can get more of a performance gain.

defrag, or get more memory. with as cheap as memory is, that might jsut do the trick. that and even up your HD's a little bit, windows and other system apps(including messengers) and mp3's all on one, with games and other stuff on the second. i have three, with all my mp3's on one, but i run rather smoothly while playing battlefield vietnam, music match, windows anti spyware, and AOL, MSN, and yahoo messengers. all on a 1.7 p4 with 712 rammage.

There is always something new coming along. My theory is not to upgrade until things seem noticably slow. All I have changed in two and a half years is increasing my memory to 1gb of XMS. I did have to replace a HD that died.
I add new pictures to my photo gallery pretty regularly. You can see them here if you are interested: http://www.pbase.com/jeffryz

    3) borrow? nah still owe for mexico and server hope that's all
i already have 1 gig running dual channel, should i try more? the defrag i've tried, but i only have 1 hard drive. the thing is, it's not the ram that gets used up, it's my cpu; multitasking is almost imposible for me. single tasking is bad enough! after finishing hl2, doom3, far cry, or any of the high quality games like it, after a hour or so of playing i'll quit, and my pc will be shot. i sometimes wonder if i got a bad cpu, the price was awfully good, 118 shipped for the 3200xp 400bus, and that was last year!

the other option i have is upgrading to a socket 754 cpu, which my motherboard allows me to do with a bridge card $39.99 pretty cool. i know 754 is kinda dead, but because of that the prices are pretty low, so would that be worth it, upgrading to a 3400 or so 754, then going dual core in 6-7 months?

The cost of that computer would make a handsome down payment on a small high school-->college car.

(Buy a nice mouse and be happy with your current setup. It's good.)

it sounds like you've got too much running for the CPU to handle, make sure that the ingame settings aren't maxed out, lower them alittle bit. yeah you won't have the stellar looks or sound, but you'll be saving your CPU. it like running a car, sure its fun to burn the tires and go as fast as your car will, but that'll eventually murder your engine. same thing with a CPU

Clean install Windows...I'm sure that'll help, and it's free.

As for a mouse, I bought an MX518 about a month ago and I love it (and I don't play games much anymore; having a full time job plus being married plus having a 7 month old puts a large dent in "free time"). It's very comfortable and the sensitivity settings are nice for graphic design work (Illustrator/Photoshop) but obviously gamers also benefit from the customizable sensitivity as well. I highly recommend the MX518; from what I've heard about Razor mice, I think they're a lot of hype and really overrated but then again - I've never used one myself so I don't know.
