    ACK.......Spider

I walk out of my door and look down to see a fairly large (palm of hand size) black thing in the corner. Wondering what the hell that is since it wasnt there last night, I notice its a freaking TARANTULA!!!!!

This is my second run in with a wild Tarantula in 7 years of living here in San Diego. I know that in certain parts of the county you see them everywhere, but I have been fortunate enough to live in an area where they are rarely, if ever, seen.

The first time was just a baby, Susan B. Anthony sized, tarantula as it crawled on top of the television. (Size of rear spinnerettes and fangs in relation to rest of body identifies it) That time, I ran clear cross my house telling someone else to kill the mofo.

I HATE SPIDERS!!!!!! Yes, I am afraid of them. The 6'5" big guy is afraid of spiders! Might have something to do with getting bitten by them no less than a dozen times in my life, including in a very sensitive area! Probably doesnt help that when I was 4 there was a spider the size of a dinner plate in our house!! It took up the entire area above a standard door with 8ft ceilings! That was in Pennsylvania. My mother clearly remembers the size, I clearly remember the size. The only thing I can think of is that it came in with our Jamacian help. Which is ironic since the Jamaican maid would not go anywhere near it. As she said, It will jump on my head and bite me.

There were other giant spiders in that house as well, but they were usually 5" across maximum including legs.

Uggghhhh.........I HATE SPIDERS! I would rather swim with a great white then be in a room with a large spider. For smaller spiders, I will just beat them to death.
Welcome my son, welcome to the machine...Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been....

Don't feel bad, I feel the same way about frogs. I have no idea why. They've never harmed me, but I hate them. And if they get too close to me, I freak out and kick them.

You'd never be able to have a pool then, especially in the midwest. When I was a kid we'd take 10-15 frogs out of my parents pool every time it rained. The worst was in the spring cleaning the pool out. Nets full of decomposing worms, salamanders, frogs, moles, mice, sometimes live frogs, leaves...ugh!

Frogs? Haha. No offense, but... Frogs?

I can understand arachnophobia. But Kermi-phobia?

And of course, I must now quote Mitch Hedberg...

In England, Smokey the Bear is not the forest fire prevention representative. They have Smackey the Frog. It's just like a bear, but it's a frog. I think it's a better system, I think we should adopt it. Because bears can be mean, but frogs are always cool. Never has there been a frog hopping toward me, and I thought 'man, I'd better play dead. Here comes that frog ...' You never say here comes that frog in a nervous manner. It's always optimistic. Hey here comes that frog, all right. Maybe he will settle near me so I can pet him, and stick him in a mayonnaise jar, with a stick and a leaf, to recreate what he's used to. And I'm pretty sure I'd have to punch some holes in the lid, because he's damn sure used to air. Then I can observe him, and he won't be doing much in his 16-ounce world.

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

just out of curiousity, how does one go about killing a tarantula? gigantic can of raid, or squash it with leather combat boots? the only time i've seen tarantulas, they have been in glass aquariums in a science class or something, i'd be pretty freaked out if i saw one outside my house.

I'm a grown man myself and I hate any sort of bugs and insects too. Except lady bugs, those are cute. Butterflies too. And lightning bugs...those are cool too. Like Dan Aykroyd said in The Great Outdoors, "they're cute - their butts light up.".

The other night I had some sort of beetle on my back (unknowingly) and I'm in the kitchen and my wife comes in and goes "OMG there's a big beetle on your back" and I'm like "get it the F OFF!" and she's like "NO GO OUTSIDE"...mannnnn was I pissed. I gave her the silent treatment for a few hours after that 'cause if she had the bug on her she'd kill me if I didn't get rid of it.
