So after my accident i rented....

As you know my g35x got busted up and i rented a ford F150

that car for it's weight packs a pretty nice punch, but friggin parking it in NYC is a competitive sport. and manuverability is also not what i'm used to

    Tongue Hey - good idea!

You know what? I just smacked my F150 - my fault, don't wanna talk about it - Maybe I should rent a g35x for a change in manuverability. What is a g35x?

    WTH?

Now I'm also wondering... why would they give Burz a full sized truck as a rental? Geez... the rental company must've been completely out of cars that day.

well apparently the policy cover a full sized car, they only had 2 altimas and one truck, they gave me a choice which was : "Do you want something fun, or do you want an altima" I said fun please

So an F-150 is considered "fun". Geez...

Maybe if it was a Harley Davidson edition or a Lightning... otherwise... I'd think not.

Sheeeyat.. you was doin' good then.

Hell, mine dips down into the 10 mpg range every now and then... Times like these make me drive it only when it is needed.

DF, is that much better than the Hemi? I thought TBirds came with pushrod V8s too - I think they're the 4.6 that the Crown Vic uses, right?

I had a 4.6 tbird.. I could get 31 on the highway on a really good day. Usually I got 28 highway and 22-24 around town.

Ford's 4.6 is used in several cars.

    31 hwy and 22-24 city on a 4.6L V8? I'm amazed. That's excellent.

I have a friend with an 89 Mustang LX 4.6.. he gets low 13's 1/4 mile and can get 35mpg on the highway. It's chipped and the chip raised his highway fuel econ quite a bit.

anyways, it's possible if you can keep your foot out of it. It also helps that I live in a very flat area.

A 4.6L V8 and a car that weighs about 2,000 lbs less than a truck with a 5.7L V8 definitely gets better gas mileage.

Now granted, the Bird don't get "good" mileage like a 4 banger (30+ MPG), however I usually get about 18 in the city and 25 on the highway. More or less, I can almost go 2 weeks on a full tank (which only holds about 17 gallons) whereas the HEMI goes a week on a 27 gallon tank. More or less, I just drive less or not at all if not necessary.

BTW... the Crown Vic is heavier than the T-Bird as well... so you have to factor that into the equation too.

Honestly, I think it is just a "trim level" difference...

Nicer than the standard model... but not bigger (unless it was a longbed or a club cab)

Depends on what year, the old style XLTs were longer because they were the supercabs compared to the standard cabs on the XL models. Currently, all of Fords trucks are either supercab or crew cabs. (Meaning 4 doors in all models, the supercabs doors open suicide style and are not full doors)

I'm sure that a rental company is not running an "old style" XLT now... probably have the new 05 models. Could be wrong... but just making an assumption.

Crusher - currently all non-WT f150s are supercab or crews. You can now order a WT that is a standard cab. This was not available in 2004. I have an 03 and I hate the new body style (bummer, because they drive nice). I am actually, gulp, thinking of going to the Dark(Fury) side after 5 f150s in a row.

Other than the fact that you can order a WT version that is the standard (non-super) cab, its what I said. When I got my 2004 they didnt have that option.

I had a '01 that I got rid of right before the new body style rolled out. I wasnt going to buy it out due to the increased depreciation when new versions come out of vehicles. My wife and I were kicking ourselves about that choice for a while after the fact. The new body style does ride nicer, but there are a number of things I dont care for in it, but what can you do.
