that is just about the sweetest gesture i have ever heard of.
i guess it's traditional for an Italian man to do to his soon to be fiancé, or at their wedding.

Heh.. but what if the guy can't sing a lick... and you are in area with a bunch of people around. Would you be embarrassed?

I have never serenaded anybody, that would be too cruel.
But I have had a few gents sing for me... an old boyfriend was a musican, when he was trying to win me back he wrote me a lovely letter and sang me a song. It was very sweet, I still have the letter.
Another time while incredibly intoxicated some guy played the guitar while singing me Metalica songs. I was on a 3rd floor balcony and he was singing on the groundfloor, in the courtyard at 3 am. It was hilarious but cute.![]()

It's even better when he can't sing. It means that he is putting himself out there to be ridiculed, not just showing off. He just can't get offended when you laugh at him.
I've been serenaded and although it was a beautiful thought and it made me feel exceedingly special...after a short bit, it became uncomfortable for me.
I told the guy at the time and several times since then (it was ~17 years ago) that it was one of THE MOST romantic things I've experienced ever.
But still and yet, it was, at the time, uncomfortable for me.

Yes, both. Then again it was a greek thing so not a one on one thingy. Although depending on where/who we were serenading it could easily be for one person.
Welcome my son, welcome to the machine...Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been....
If we were walking through a department store or Target or something and I heard a corny 80s love song playing on the little in-store music thing, I'd overdramatically sing it to my woman. I didn't care who was around. She'd usually laugh, but if there were too many people around, she'd get embarassed.
I, however, have no shame.
have serenaded and been serenaded to more times than i can remember at the moment...mostly for sorority/fraternity events.
Some day, when I'm awfully low,
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you...
And the way you look tonight.
Yes you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you look tonight.
With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart...
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.
Lovely ... never, ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it ?
'cause I love you ... just the way you look tonight.
Mm, mm, mm, mm,
Just the way you look to-night.
gawd, i would so love someone to sing that to me and mean it...

I've serenaded someone before. A couple times, actually. One time in my fraternity I serenaded a brother as a joke to Barry White's Just the Way You Are, and the other times I've done it to my girlfriend.
Most recently in Fenway Park when the Yankees won a rollercoaster victory against the Sox, I serenaded my friend with New York, New York.

I serenaded my g/f before she left for 4 months to travel around costa rica with the song yellow by coldplay. She was crying by the end, so i can't tell if that was good or bad...
"The girl is crafty like ice is cold."
"I left my heart in san francisco... And my liver at Moe's Tavern."

There are two tragedies in life. One is to lose your heart's desire. The other is to gain it.
serenaded? nope... never...

hmm... which then begs the question: what was the bet?Originally Posted by blueindian
