Quick question: Storing electronics in a warm place

Hiya, quick question...

I need to store my stuff for a week in a non-climate controlled storage unit for 1 week.

I have a TV, Computer, DVD player, speakers, etc. and before I put it in there, will the heat damage it? I've stored this stuff in my car for a few days at times and it was fine.

Does heat in an enclosed space hurt electronics? It will be 80-90 degrees over the next week here.

It can most definitely do damage. I'm not guaranteeing it, but heat and improper ventilation is probably the A #1 cause of premature malfunction in electronic devices, especially computer and networking equipment.

When my desktop CPU is on, it's at 110-120 degrees Fahrenheit... wonder if it gets that hot in the storage... anyone else have a say?

Well that was my thinking. When I worked at OfficeMax, they sent us truckloads of product weekly. Never in the summer did they send anything in temperature controlled trucks....trust me. Those sons of beaches were hot inside.

I figure if they transport ok...they should store ok. I wouldn't see why heat would effect them for a week.

The biggest worry will be rapid heating or cooling. After that high humidity.
It might help if you wrap your electronics in a blanket to reduce the speed of heating and cooling.

Having it running can exacerbate it, often because the components themselves become the primary heat source. but delicate circuitry can be affected by external heat sources as well as internal. I think most of your electronics will suggest temperature ranges for safe storage and operation if look hard enough through all the docs.
