True "neon" lights are actually red. They are named neon cause that’s the gas that they are filled with. The chemical determines the color output so yes you can have a neon light output UV, you could have it output just about any color by mixing chemicals. As for being able to see it, you cant actually see UV, but you can see the reflection that bounces off of other objects. This property is called florescence, the ability to absorb UV light and to radiate it back out. I should add that most consumer UV lights do not emit only UV light, many of them also emit other wavelengths that can sometimes be seen with the naked eye.Originally posted by spigidygak

ohh one more thing, if you bothered to actually read what that link has to say you'd know that the neon light in there isn't even a UV (black) light its just a plain Blue light. Which is a great advantage cause if it was a UV light my feet would be covered with cancer.
