Pic of The Day: USS Midway

I finally went on the tour of the USS Midway which has been converted to a museum and sits in San Diego Harbor. They even have flight simulators you can go on (for an extra fee of course). The tour is self-guided and you get to see quite a few things. They have a lot of different aircraft on board too- this is an F-8 Cursader. Most of the guides are people who actually served on the ship. More info: http://www.midway.org/site/pp.asp?c=coIMKTMCF&b=81432

    Actually Zippy, it's a F4-Phantom.

The F8(E) Crusader is one ugly sonuva...

That's funny b/c as soon as I saw that picture I said that is a phantom not a crusader. Irish beat me to it.

My wife's grandfather was one of the driving factors on making the Midway into a museum. He fought in the battle of Midway on the Midway and is often quoted regarding it.
Welcome my son, welcome to the machine...Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been....

I was trying to remember where it was on the deck and going by the map they handed out. Thanks for the correction! The map shows the F-4 Phantom on the other side of the ship.

Cool looking phantom! I had a tiny metal replica when I was a kid.
