    Woohoo another year!!! (Smart Roadster)

I was upset to see that the smart roadster...

...would be discontinued after 2005. But apparently after the announcement sales went up in the UK 30%, and they will now continue producing the roadster untill 2006.

Hopefully the termination will continue to be delayed untill they start selling the cars here in the US. Especially with these gas prices....if i did the math right the roadster gets on average about 57mpg. Only problem...its top speed is about 109MPH...then again I rarely go above that.

Other perks...its smaller the the mini cooper...parking in the city will never be an issue again (my current car is a VW Passat)

Am I alone here? Is that it?
Am I the only one who sees.

Maybe we can learn to be just like him.

Finally...there are others that like it! Usually the response i get is that its ugly or looks like a sneaker.

ok...maybe i can agree with the sneaker bit...but its still sweet.

what mini were you in that could fit 4 people? Im not that big, ut i prefer to ride sideways in the back seat then facing front...the mini is really a 3 seater.

The roadster coupe however is a two seater.

Here in Frankfurt, you see those Smart cars all over the place. In fact, there's a dealership right down the street from me. The cars are tiny tiny tiny. However, they are pretty comfortable when you are in them. They are certainly made for only 2 people and no luggage pretty much.

They're really just city cars. I don't think I've seen any on the Autobahn. I wouldn't want to take one on a long trip, that's for sure.

According to the website in Germany, the Roadsters are between 15,000-25,000 Euros . . .

    So around $18k-$30k dollars?

Wow, that doesn't seem too bad. Positive feedback on them over there?

Tough to say. I'd probably be the last person to give an educated opinion on the matter given that I have always lived in major metro areas with really good public transportation and have never really had any need for a car.

However, it seems most of the Smart cars that are sold here are the tiny little box cars . . . not the sleeker roadsters. I think most people look at Smart cars as functional little things that are meant solely to get someone from point A to point B as efficiently as possible. The tiny boxy cars are kind of just a step up from a Vespa scooter.

I rode in one of the Smart Roadsters once, and it was pretty nifty. It had a little pep, but it felt like I was riding in a big bumper car or something. For $30k, I think I could find many other cars I would prefer.

The milage on the boxy version and the roadster arent much different...and the $30k roadster is probably the brabus edition, which has a 2nd 3cyl engine crammed into it and a bunch of other stuff added on.

Just did some price conversions... GBP-->USD base price is 26,000
    Euro (german site)-->USD 24,000

Looks good from the sky. They need to do something with that grill.

Sorta reminds me of the RX-8, only squished and modified a little. Not all that bad looking.

Well, if you're from the school of thought that today's current oil shortages are here (in some shape or form) to stay, then the future certainly holds something like this for you.

With that said, it's not a bad looking car. I'm sure as technology evolves both the look and performance will improve. Hopefully the pricetag too...
