the private seller said it's been in on accidents, a little bumper bender, he replaced it with a factory bumper, paint and head lights. He said there was NO frame damage. Do you guys think it's ok?

Check out www.7thgencivic.com for some deals in the ForSale forums.

I bought a cheap car with frame damage 8 years ago-it could have killed me. I lost traction a number of times.

Did it blow the airbags? The Honda dealer can tell by reading the airbag controller.

no...it didn't blow the blow the airbags. It's actually not that expensive. KBB.com said $12,805 for this car. and he's only asking for $9800 which I'm gonna try to bring it down to $9300-$9500. Yeah?

just met with him, CAR LOOKS GREAT!! test drove it...city and highway. alignment was very good. body was good. And the pictues of the little bumper bender wasn't bad at all. talked him down to 9600 instead of 9800. And he's gonna help me out with taxes and tell the city he sold the car to me for 8500 instead of 9600. So I think this is gonna be a pretty good deal. I'm pretty much sold, I'm gonna take it to a mechanic tomorrow, and the sale is gonna be based on whether the car frame is ok or not. of the car frame is bad...no sale...but if the car frame is ok...then this is gonna be my rice rocket!!! =) discuss!

    congrats!

i would've bought a new kia (korean pride bro! :-P) , but... a civic with not too many miles, no major accidents, should be a good ricer to last you a while.

See if the strut assemblies may need to be replaced. With as little noise as possible, drive over a speed bump or two when turning. If you hear a THUD! they will need to be replaced (on warranty).

Good deal at ~$9600, IMHO, but I'm partial to 7th generation civics.

It was pretty apparent by your posts that you wanted the car, you were looking for reinforcement. Civic is a good car, if your mechanic checks it out then I say go for it. $9600 sounds reasonable here.

If you don't like it, turn around and flip it for $10k and buy something else.

    Congrats on the purchase.

    frame damage? no way, man...

seriously tho, i'd have to agree with mikeD. it seemed to me you were pretty much set on getting the car even before you made the thread, and you were just looking for a little bit of encouragement. i don't think it was a bad purchase; hope it works out great for you.

Why is a private seller charging tax?

oh no, private seller isn't charging tax. the state is. What he's doing is while at the court house, he tells the city that he sold the car to me for 8500 instead of 9600. In other words...we cheated the city

Cheesy has to pay tax to the DMV so the lower the number the better.
