    Car Accident...

So car accidents are no fun. Especially when they give you whiplash, make you miss about a week of work and totally **** up your car.

So on monday about 4:00pm the girl and I were sitting at a red light minding our own buisness when BOOOM! some idiot chick in a white honda civic plows into the back of my beautiful hybrid. My poor car. So then we exchange information and all that crap and we drive away. I figure, hey there might be something wrong so lets drive to urgent care. Come to find out they don't deal with head injuries at urgent care, so they refer us to the ER. Wow, wouldn't it be nice if medical assistants could've bestowed that knowledge upon us before we'd waited a hour and a half.

So we get to the ER and the lines are like the DMV. Painful, long and pointless appearing. So wait another 2-3 hours. tick tock tick tock. LAME. So after we get inside triage, I get a set of x-rays and fortunatly everything turns out negatively (no breaks) and the girls tests come out fine as well. All in all it looks like we both have moderate to severe whiplash. I'm on Soma and she's on soma and ibuprofin (I can't take that because of my ulcer) so lots of fun all around.

    Damn civics...
So the Prius will be in the shop at least a month, if they don't total it. Major, major bummer. Not like I can buy another Gen I Prius. The whiplash is painful, but the other driver's insurance company called and apparently the other driver admitted full responsibility for the accident (she rear ended me, so duh) and they're covering all medical, car repair, pain and suffering, and a rental (ford focus ). What a pain in the ass. Missing work though isn't so bad, especially when the days off are paid by her insurance. But this whole damn situation is going to take so much time out of my life. Sigh... Well, almost time to pop another Soma.

I am sorry to hear about your accident. I am glad to hear that you and your girl are okay though. As you already know, cars can be replaced.

Oooh, Soma. The wonder drug. More like, I wonder where I'll be when I wake up! Sorry to hear that. I hope they didn't total your car. More so, I hope you don't have any long lasting effects from the whiplash.

Damn. That really really really sucks. My heart goes out to both of you. Both of you end up laid up with screwed up necks and your Gen I Prius is seriously screwed up as well. Meanwhile, I bet the idiot driving the civic is ok, right? That is what pisses me off the most about this - especially since I have been in a major accident and had my great car totalled thanks to the moronic behavior of another driver . I truly hope you both get better and don't have any lasting effects from this because these injuries have a bad habit of lingering.

I hope you get a decent settlement from this because there's nothing like a major accident to interrupt everything you were planning on doing for the next few months. Take advantage of the Soma - that's a nice drug when you need it.

sorry to hear that Airen, and i hope they can fix your car.
getting your car declared totaled is a screw job. the ins. co. will give you market value and it's difficult to go out and buy what you had before for that price.

when i was in an accident a year ago this past Feb (a man turned in front of me to go into his driveway - he said the sun was in his eyes), the first thing a friend said to me was, "are you going to sue?" i wasn't hurt except for some airbag burns so sueing wasn't on my mind at all.
but.... after his insurance company gave me less than what i felt my car was worth i thought... now i see why some people sue.

My car accident was last September and I should be wrapping up within a few weeks. I'm going to get my deductible back I hope and if the settlement is pansy I'm gonna sue for my medical x 3. I have a police report also and the at fault driver was driving without insurance so I figure I can ask bascially for anything within reason.

I'd recommend seeing a personal injury lawyer. My girlfriend was in an accident last year, and has had some lasting neck problems. The lawyer we talked to was very nice, and helped her a lot in knowing what to do and what her rights are. Also, since they are paid based on the settlement, it really doesn't cost you any money (or at least not any out-of-pocket money).

They have genuine injuries because of the other party's clear negligence. Also, Airencracken's valuable Prius Gen I was seriously damaged (if it's going to take a month to get fixed, it has to be serious) and the other party's insurance co. is probably going to try and low-ball him if they total it.

Airencracken, you and the girl need to talk to a good lawyer. Anyone know one out there in the Inland Empire?

Why get sue happy? Getting a laywer seems like an "if" thing. If the insurance companies are uncooperative or unfair... break out the guns. Oh an make sure you have pictures of unfixed car to show the extent of the damage proving the severity of the injury.

I know that my girlfriend won't sue, because it's too much of a headache. The lawyer is there to make sure there's fair treatment (if you get a good one, not one of the strong-arm type guys on TV). Also, there's many thing you just don't know. Soft tissue injuries can last for a long time, and if you settle too soon, you could be screwing yourself.

Yup, I had a car accident and I settled too soon. Too soon for me to realize that my neck would be consistently numb in one area.

Sorry to hear about the Prius. A month without it!!!! Bastards! Maybe if there's enough pain and suffering, there will be a Gen 2 in your future.

In all seriousness, I hope everyone is okay and the pain passes quickly.

Toyota does rent new Prii. Get the dopey broad's insurance company to cover it.

Well, I'm feeling pretty good today and so is the girl. I have a doc appt on tuesday and she has one today. We're basically thinking along the lines of IN. If they try to screw me, we'll sue, but since they've been fairly cooperative than we're going to try and be cooperative.

Good news! 90% of whiplash is cured within a year.

I've been rear-ended three times myself. No injuries (knock on wood) and quick, reasonable insurance settlements.

Look at the upside. If you aren't working, you can spend more time with us here at G|A !

3 weeks of therapy becasue of the accident? Without doubt, go see a lawyer! Yes, the lawyer's going to make money, but if you find a decent one, they're also going to make sure you get what you need.
