Intel denies wrong doing from AMD

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050901/...el_amd_lawsuit

I guess i missed the first part of this story. AMD sued them for monopolistic actions it appears. After reading this, i have to kind of side with Intel. Amd seems to be moving up in the world. Why would they decide suddenly to sue. It seems like its going to be more trouble then its worth.

After Dell announced they were going to carry AMD chips.. then suddenly pulled out and went back to exclusively Intel... And, all that MAC x86 crap is going to be Intel of course. I see two or more very good reasons to try to stop this right there.
*not to metion the real reasons, and how market prices on chips get jacked up when monopolies form*

Like it or not, everything's driven by politics. I'm sure AMD, given the chance, would have done the same. They could arguably do this with Compaq/HP along with a handful of other companies where they have a majority influence on the machines' CPUs.

Dell's CEO one time did say, in responce to questions of why they don't make machines with AMD chips inside, that they were converned about AMD's ability to supply enough chis if they did. He added that the AMD chips offered intreguing possibilites for systems. It seems like every year there is some rumor of Dell starting to use AMD chips but it never happens.

It would be nice to have two options from dell on what chip to get. Although i just build my own, it would introduce many to amd chips.

Well politics or not.. abusing monopolies is illegal, and someone has to look out for _some_ of the consumers... (as well as themselves)
