Brand new Frigidaire A/C for $80 at garage sale?

Ahoy!! I've stumbled on a mighty good deal at a local bilge sale. $80 for a brand new Fridgidare 6,000 BTU Air Conditioner (window unit). I've checked around and found that I can get one at an online store for a little under $200. I'm not sure if the warranty is still valid, but just from the price and brand name, would you buy it?

Depends on how "hot" it was...

It's not that hot anymore, but it was murderous this summer and it most likely will be again next year.

I'm just wondering if the big savings would be worth the potential of it being grey market or breaking down without warranty.

Check the EER. If it is less than 10, forget it. $80 for 6000 BTUs at this time of the year is not that big of a deal. Sears should have a similar deal.

Apparently, you missed the subtlety of my earlier comment.

Yup. I'd be worried about hot property.

Haha... ya totally got me there.

Yes that was one of my concerns. Why is this lady selling a brand new A/C at a garage sale? And she was so eager to get it off her hands (Oh wait...all garage sales are like that). Anyhow, the thought ha indeed crossed my mind. Oh well, it seems like Sears has 5,000 BTU units for around $80, so I'm gonna pass on this offer. Thanks for all the advice guys
