    Quality DVD drive

My NEC dvd drive (2x burn) is dying on me. It can't rip and it stutters while playing movies. Can anyone recommend a drive that can read dvds well, regardless of how scratched up they are?

2X is pretty ancient there... Probably any of the newer DVD players will do ya..

But here is the one I'd recommend... "Best bang for the buck"

Both NEC and BenQ get excellent reviews. I think deals on the NEC are more prevalent though.

Another vote for the NEC. But to really get the most out of it, update it with the latest firmware from here. I've got the 3520, and I burn 8x media at 12x or 16x. Very nice!

Another vote for the 3540, and another vote for NewEgg. Can't beat the quality and service...

I've got an NEC-2500A (8x) DVD burner and it's been very good. Also bought from NewEgg. Now whip that credit card out and buy it already.

I just picked up 2 of the NECs for Work and they are working nicely.
use them mostly for Drive images and backups.. so they get used alot.
