What should I look for?

My 2GB HDD is finally filling up. And am looking for a replacement. I've got a Tyan Motherboard that takes a UDMA66 drive. What kind of specs should I be on the lookout for while searching for my HDD?

Get an IBM 75GXP. Probably the fastest EIDE hard drive out there. It's ATA-100, but backwards compatible with ATA-66.

You can get the 30 gig Quantum Fireball Plus LM (storage reviews second choice in their "Summer 2000 7200 RPM ATA Drive Roundup", the 75GXP was first choice) for around 130 from buy.com if you use a 30 off 150 coupon. You can find the coupon somewhere in the deals forum or at http://www.fatwallet.com I've never used the drive but it is supposed to be pretty nice. 2 Meg buffer, 7200 RPM, ATA66 ect.

It's even cheaper than that. Go to http://www.quantum.com and do a search on "rebate rock" (without the quotes) and get a $30 rebate on the drive (no UPC needed, just a receipt). I bought one of these drives a few weeks ago and sent in for the rebate.

since you asked for specs and stuff, somethign you'll want to look for is RPM's, i personally only get 7200 RPM drives, those 5400 drives may look cheaper for more memory but that extra speed really pays off.

And of course besides the obvious...space...the higher the better...

If you just want the drive for storage, then get the biggest drive for the best price. Like, me... I have a 8GB drive dedicated to MP3s. The speed of the drive doesn't really matter when loading mp3s. Besides, if you get a huge drive, that means it is a newer drive and should be at least 5400. That is plenty for storage. Just make sure you have your OS and large loading softare on a fast drive.

So, If You are looking for a new main drive, get a fast one (i.e. the 75GXp or the Fireball). But, if it is just storage, I would get the biggest one for the amount of money I want to spend.
