    what's the difference between managed and unmanaged switches?

    hmm, i think a managed switch is one that has the ability to change its settings through a UI, where as an ungmanaged switch is as-is and has no settings to be changed (i think)

    Yeah, an unmanaged switch you just plug in & it works. A managed switch (like the Cisco 2900 series) can be remotely configured to do a lot of fun stuff, like VLANS & port monitoring. Managed switches are a lot more expensive.
