need help w/ plug&play monitor setting on laptop

under Display Properties > Settings...

display 1 (laptop LCD) says it's set as 'plug and play'... display 2 (whatever projector the laptop is connected to) says it's set as default monitor.

any way of changing this around?

i ask because once i plug a projector to my laptop (for powerpoint presentations), the display automatically defaults to the projector...and when i try to change the display settings...the laptop CRASHES!!! insane!!

What kind of laptop are you using? Is there a hot key to switch primary display? On my acer there is...you also may try going into advanced settings on your graphics

i'm using a dell 700m....and yes, there's a hot key. even pressing that after hooking up a projector crashes my comp...

isn't it F-key plus F8 to switch between showing just the laptop or laptop or both? I haven't had any trouble with the Dell laptop and projector we have at the client site. I don't remember what model the Dell is but it's pretty recent.
