I'm trying to install a TV tuner card and I'm supposed to connect the sound cable to my motherboard, which has an on-board soundcard. I can't seem to find the socket on my motherboard. Anybody know where I can find diagrams of the motherboard of specific Dell models?

Ok...Just did some research and it turns out the the 9100 DOESN'T have an audio aux-in on its motherboard....WTF?
Is it possible for the audio signal to travel through the PCI connection?
I have a Dell 4550 with onboard audio. I put one of the Hauppage ($20 deal from here) tuner cards in it a year or so ago. It had an external cable that I connected between the card and the "aux-in" port on the back of the case. It might have actually been the Dell's microphone input - been so long I can't remember. I'll look when I get home this evening if I remember.
The cable had a male headphone plug on each end.

My Tuner card doesn't even have an "audio out" plug....only various "in" plugs..... hmmm

Where does the audio line coming out of the CD-ROM attach to? It should be going onto the board somewhere. Just unplug the audio line to the CD-ROM and plug in the TV Tuner card in its spot.
I never heard of a tuner card doing this unless it has a built in hardware MPEG compressor. Then you will probably not need to hook up any audio lines it will be transfered over the bus with the video.Originally Posted by ArkiStan

Neither the CD-R nor the DVD-R drives are using audio lines right now. The computer just came that way....hmmm.
It's a Leadtek WinFast TV200XP. The manual says that the audio cable must be plugged into the soundcard or motherboard. Nowhere does the manual mention that the sound can be transferred without an audio cable.

Yeah you will need to use the audio wire or you will not get any sound. Sounds like you need an aftermarket sound card. Any cheap one would work.
Well, I guess It'll work out since I was gonna get a soundcard anyway. I'm setting up a HTPC with an AV receiver, so I need to get a soundcard with with a digital out. I guess that'll solve it.
