San Diego area.....anyone know of open positions?

A friend of mine who currently works for Kyocera Wireless as a Test Coordinator, found out a little more than a month ago that he is among the unlucky people who got the axe in the latest round of downsizing. Although they gave him a 2 month warning, he has not been able to find a new job yet.

While we gave him a couple of leads, I dont think any of them panned out. It probably doesnt help that our backgrounds are quite different and thus most leads I could give him wouldnt really help.

I figured that there are enough people in the tech/tech related fields in the San Diego region on the board, that some people might have a lead that I can pass on to him.

From my understanding, he has been working in that Test Coordinator position for several years. He has been building computers for a while, does some networking, and a bunch of other things.

If anyone knows of a position in the area that might work for him, let me know so I can pass it on.

    Thanks.
Welcome my son, welcome to the machine...Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been....

    What is a Test Coordinator?
Is it hardware test, firmware test, or software test? Is it some kind of project manager or an administrative roll? Or is it a QA management type of position?

you might suggest he contact companies like SAIC, maybe Geo-Systems, and if he has contacts with military support contractors...navy and marine information systems require testing and evalution engineers. Sorry I can't offer any specifics, but if you or he knows anyone in the civil service at SPAWAR, NHRC, etc., that might be a place to look...

You might wanna suggest to your friend to ask one of his/her former co-employees because my neighbor use to do exactly the same thing as your friend and she is working now related to the same job. I am pretty sure she knows her, too.

i know this is kinda late, but i know HP is hiring, they hire most new employees thru 2 or three temp agencies, ive heard that some of these temp agencys pay better than others, so maybe it would be best to call HP and get a list of the companys that they work with. HP does alot of product testiing here in SD, could be right up your friends alley.

Oy, I've been out of commission due to a baby boy!

With anything (sometimes), it is not what you know, it is WHO you know. The main word of advice from me, NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK. Which your pal is doing indirectly through you, but I am sure something will pan out. Good people are hard to find in any industry & any co-worker, past or present, who is on good terms with that pal will help him/her land in another good position soon.

Remember, tell that pal to do their due diligence on a prospective hiring employer. Don't be desperate & snatch up the first offer from the first company. The reason: ask to yourself why this position was open, vacant, or created in the first place. Is the corporate culture a good match? Or simply, "Show Me the Money!" -Jerry MacGuire

Good Luck, I've been there & Done that in terms of the search. It can really suck sometimes.
