Or at least he does. There is a strong posability that Nija is controlling Apex with his Orbital Mind Control Lasers.

And we all know Hapoo has something to do with it.

I didn't give it the TO, if that's what you mean, though it was my idea. The PF has been guilty of name calling, baiting, and generally been unable to hand discourse, so it gets a week off to think about these things.

It was either that or start banning people left and right.

I remember when I first came here, about 60% of the Political Forum posts ended up just being Canta and LK sniping at each other. Eventually they were able to agree on at least one thing: GW Bush = bad.

Forums shouldn't get TO's, posters should.

AS much as I love discussing relevant political topics, that forum has been painful to watch and even more painful to post in recently.

To be honest, I don't think it's really the tone of the posts but rather the inconsistent thickness of folks' skins that's the problem. And, as a result, rules need to be put in place to account for the lowest common denominator. That sucks.

Ban the babies and let's just get on with things.

To add on to this also, people who don't take criticism well or react negatively to other peoples points of view should realize this themselves and just not post and bait.

People who preach tolerance don't always tolerate. People bait and call names. People get rude. These people should get TOs or bans, but a whole forum? I have to disagree.

I think it's just supposed to give everyone a chance to cool their jets and hopefully get past the attitudes lately. Not a permanent thing, iirc.

well, we could just ban everyone that posts there, but this way was easier.

You guys don't realize that 90 percent of GAM work is handling the politcal forum. It's a pain in the ass. And it goes through these periods where everyone ends up baiting and name calling. It's easier and frankly, kinder, to just shut down the forum for a bit till people mellow out. We also get tired of being accused of bias on who we T.O./ban in that forum; this way no one can bitch.

Agree or disagree - it's still closed.

Why ban everyone who posts there? There is often good discussion/debate. People who call names and such should be given TOs or whatever, but the forum itself isn't the problem. Bias? I'm sure there is some bias, especially toward people with histories of name-calling/rudeness, but people who follow the rules established and general civility and respect owed to others should not be banned/TO'd. It is one of my favorite forums on the net, and I'll miss it. I still feel it is a mistake to close it b/c a few people couldn't behave.

No, there is a perceived bias against right/left people. However, from my perspective there is none. TO's were given to those one the right and left with both groups being pissed off, that usually means you have done the right thing.

What is frustrating about the situation is that there are many (me included, or used to be) who try to shadow bait and then once they become embroiled in an argument, claim to be innocent.

There are also those who think it's smart to toe the line with GAM. People need to remember that this is not their board, this is not their bandwidth, and it is not their host. You are a guest of Apex, Leon, and the rest of the crew who run and own this site. As such, *they* make the rules.

More or less, you are having a pool party in their back yard, you pee in the pool and you get thrown out.

All of this crap about "free so and so" needs to stop. It is VERY hard to get banned here and the liberties allowed before were very lenient. You can wise up or you can leave, those who have been banned were given many opportunities to wise up and they refused.

I hope people take the timeout and wise up, as you can see from my posts I am not responding like I used to. Perhaps certain people can follow the lead and we can have a nice Political forum in a week.

i almost felt bad cuz i got a TO then realized it wan't in the political forum

lk...some good points. however, the neighbor doesn't get paid to have as many people come to his house as possible.

and i would agree that there's no bias either way.

nm. it was in the political forum. at least it got moved there.

This isn't really up for discussion. It's a week timeout, not a full on ban.

First off, others can correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think the forums earn much money for the site at all. We don't have a billion banners everywhere, nor do the deals postings in the deals forum earn comissions. GotApex as a deals site is a business, the forums help by providing a place for people to discuss deals and hang out while discussing other topics.

That being said, GAM is a volunteer, moderators are volunteers. There are a few who shoulder most of the responsibility and have to deal with the crap. As LP said, Pol takes up a massive amount of GAM time, spammers take up the rest.

To take my pool party analogy and incorporate your post...

We are having a pool party in the GA backyard while the business works out of the front yard and garage. Once in a while the pool party gets rowdy and spills over to the front yard, where it disrupts business or ticks the proprietors off.

No matter how you cut it, this is a business run by a few people who work massive amounts of hours. We are guests and should treat our host that way. Disrespect the host and you get booted. Break his rules and you get booted. Act like a buffoon in his forum and you get booted.

You are not forced to be here but you are certainly welcome and you are encouraged to enjoy the Pol forum, provided you can do it in a civilized manner.
