If you could be any race other than your own race...which one would you pick?


I'm asian, and I would want to be black.
I've always thought that black people had a connection... like, if a couple black guys see each other at the office or whatnot, they kinda do the head nod, and all of a sudden, they're buddies. Shrug.

Honestly, that is surprising... since most folks probably wouldn't want to go that route based off of the various societal stigmas and stereotypes.

I take that as a high compliment ATT.


As far as me... I couldn't see myself as anything other than what I am. That would be a choice that I couldn't change for myself. Too bad we just can't change the way society is instead.

Technically, I'm mixed-race (European/Native-American) and with everything I have learned about being Irish and being Native American, I can't really decide. Both cultures have been very open and welcoming to me.

if we're talking about hypotheticals here, i'm gonna stretch it a bit further and say i'd like to be black during the mid 1960's. despite the pain of the struggle, i would have loved to have participated in the civil rights movement.

either black or native american. both have more of a connection to their heritage and community than most whites.


of course, white is so all-encompassing that we don't really have a "white" shared history. you can be white and be from ireland or russia. not much of a shared heritage there.

yeah, i knew a guy in high school who was 1/16th native american, and he ended up milking that for scholarships all through college and med school at columbia. he was such a tool, too...

I'm with everyone who can't imagine themselves differently. I'm happy being Korean and I'm uber-grateful that my parents moved here and raised me as an American. That, or they raised me and I ended up being American...

That said, I'm with IAHAD, switching around races could be fun.

Black might be fun because I'd be able to hang out in the inner city without getting stared at or look like I'm there to buy drugs, I could hit on a black chick without the world's assumptions to deal with, and I'd have the soul factor of being able to be cool without having to prove street cred.

White, eh, people assume I'm whitewashed as is. I have cowboy boots and listen to country music, I'm an NRA member and a gun-owner and have a Bush/Cheney '04 sticker on my car, I occasionally drop "y'all" into my speech, so I doubt it'd be worth it to change over since people make the assumption about me anyways. Besides, it's fun to drive through podunk middle America and be stared at by the local Amish-typed as you walk into a McDonald's. I'd miss that if I were white.

Being hispanic might be fun if only to not have to tell the Mexican guys behind the counter that when they talk about me, I understand Spanish. The chino gordo knows what you're saying, buddy. Haha.

And so on and so forth.
