nope. not really. a good friend owns a window washing company in denver and i'm amazed that people can live on nearly minimum wage. of course, a ton of them are illegals.

my duddy used to have a firm no-illegal hiring policy but i think he's relaxed it recently since he couldn't compete with the other firms because of it.

Here in Chicago, I've seen window washers that don't use a platform. They have a little seat (like a hard swing seat) susepeded on a line, and a second safety line. They dangle down, swing to the left and right to get to more windows, then lower themsleves down to the next floor. I've seen them doing this on 25 story buildings.

    reallly..
I was talking to a dude in the elevator, who's a window washer (on his way up to wash the building's windows), and he's non-illegal, unionized, and says he gets well compensated.

These guys were getting $13.50 per hour. Not a huge sum, especially for that kind of risk. After the "incident" their employer offered to give them a raise to $14.50, but only if they signed away their right to sue him. Both of them quit instead.

I was shocked to hear that their wild ride lasted over 20 minutes.

The two "Raider" guys they interviewed in that link were NOT the window washers, they were linen delivery guys that were watching it with the camera crew. At the original link, there is a subsequent story with the actual window washers entitled "Window Washers Relive Wild Ride".
