SS: Package says delivered to porch, I never got it.

So I ordered some stuff online. Site I've used many times before, ships via UPS every time. Can't remember if I've ever had trouble with them before, altho I know I've had probs with UPS a few times with other deliveries over the years.

Anyway, I check the tracking this morning and it says it was delivered on the porch yesterday at 12:09. That's bull****. I had pizza delivered for lunch at 12:30-12:45 and there was nothing on the porch. Plus, my desk is about 4 feet from the front door and I HEAR when stuff is brought up to the door. And I hear UPS trucks outside. I didn't hear one then. I got another package from UPS yesterday and I heard that.

Anyway, I contacted UPS, they said they need to be contacted by the shipper then they will start a trace on it. So I contacted the store online and am waiting to hear from them.

Suck. I wanted to get the stuff before Christmas and now who knows. I HATE the way UPS just leaves stuff with no knocking or signature required or anything.

I have just the opposite problem. I am usually not there to sign for it the first or second attempt.

yeah... it probably was delivered to "the porch". But WHO's porch is the question?

I had a package like that once, that was delivered across town to someone whose street name differed by mine by one letter... they had the same house number and everything. And the shipper changed the zip code on my inbound thinking that the street address was incorrect.

Needless to say, I made the shipper go back and recover my package.

Oh, we get delivery people here going one street to the north of us all the time. drives me insane. 3rd St (mine) and Plaza Lane. Yeah, VERY similar.

Did you contact the shipper? If so and they don't take care of you then dispute the charge on your CC b/c you didn't receive the goods you were promised.

OMFG. So I had ordered 2 50-pk DVD-R's from Staples (deal in the deal forum) and they were set to be delivered yesterday. I heard the truck pull up in the afternoon, heard the thump of the box and immediately went out and got the box. It was 1 box (1 order of the 2). So I thought ok, no biggie, the other should get here tomorrow. So I decided to look on Staples.com today. Sure enough, it shows BOTH as delivered yesterday. What the ****in hell! What luck do I have right now for UPS?? Bastards.

staples is pretty good at fixing these types of problems, though ....i always order supplies from them and they're pretty good at taking care of their customers

For several weeks, UPS was "delivering" (i.e., dropping them at the front door) all our packages to a neighbor's house 2 doors away. The neighbor would bring things by or let us know that we had 3 boxes at their house. I had my wife call UPS and complain about them delivering our stuff to the wrong address.

Tell me about it. Before the strike UPS always knocked on the door and waited for you to eithe rsign or answer. Now, if you are lucky, they will yell "UPS!!" or ring your Doorbell before they jump back into their trucks.....

This happened to my gf's sister. She ordered a new Digital Rebel and it should have arrived the day before Thanksgiving. She waited by the door and Fed Ex never came. So she checked online and it said it was delivered. She called them and they say its been delivered, but she was waiting by the door the whole time, and no one knows where it was left. Fed Ex finally found it about 4 houses down.

this is why i deliver everything to work.... if you work at home... deliver it to a friend's work near by... no confusions!

You could always train your UPS and FedEx delivery personnel. My freaking dad was on a first name basis with the UPS and FedEx dudes who were delivering a package everyday to our house this past summer. Anything labeled for Lee, Chang or Kim came to our door no problem. The only problem was that they delivered the most anticipated packages after he was on the plane for a trans-Pacific flight.

You hand the pkg to USPS and they'll wait for 2-12 days before actually deliver it. And the recipient should wait for another 2-5 days to receive it or never receive the parcel at all.

Three quick answers I'll offer:

1. UPS normally doesn't require a signature to leave a package. FedEx does, but if you sign a waiver (that they keep on file) they'll leave your stuff from that point forward.

UPS does have areas that they designate where packages must be signed for. It's mostly areas that have high rates of theft. Not saying you live in the hood, just saying that's how they do things.

2. All package carriers are unbelievably busy this time of year. In short, this means that they have 10 bazillion other packages to ship and couldn't care less about yours (unless you're a shipper with a big account...they'll listen to you regardless of the season). The average Joe/Jane getting DVD's delivered? Not even a blip on their radar. Not saying that it's right, just saying that's how they do things.

3. UPS driver positions are union jobs. As part of their contract, each route is "bid" based on seniority each year. In theory, this means that you could get a new permanent driver every 12 months. Some routes (the easy ones) keep the same guy every year; he's an old-timer with a ton of seniority, and he bids on it and gets it each year. Other routes...well, let's just say the churn rate is high. I wouldn't waste too much time establishing a relationship with the driver, because he could be gone before you know it.

I worked for UPS for 10 years before recently leaving. These things happen all the time, are amplified at Christmas, and never change. Don't expect much help from the carrier; they'll just and move on to the next package.

Yeah I am kinda tired of the UPS and FEDEX. I would much rather deal with my USPS carrier as he is the sweetiest guy and if I am not home he takes the package back with him and tries the next day because I have had problems with items being stolen. I hate how UPS pulls up throws the package down and is gone by the time you get half way accross the room from being scared by the loud thud.

I've had some really good drivers who will leave packages by my back door if I'm not home.

I had one UPS guy who decided that he should 'hide' the package by my front door, so he threw it behind my bushes. Great, except that I think he actually threw it, so I couldn't see it, and if I knew it was there, I had to climb through my bushes to get it!

And cool, just talked to the Staples people and they are sending me out a new order, should get here by Thursday. It's just DVD-R's and I have about 75 of them currently. lol So no rush, but still, that's great.

Second, yeah, I understand all that. But NONE of that accounts for the absolutely CRAPPY way they have been handling things the last 6 months or so. Before, it was ok. They would at least knock to let you know it was there, then leave. Rather than just tossing and going, like MommyPooh said. I'm just really, really frustrated. I used to LOVE UPS and had zero problems with them for years. But come on! Even during the holidays, I've never had this amount of issues.

I can't speak for UPS as a company, but I love my UPS guy. He's very friendly and puts in a crap-load of hours, especially at Christmas.

Now DHL, that's a different story. Our overnight and 2nd-day DHL packages are almost always at least one day late. They once delivered an important overnight package 16 days late, and a 2nd-day package over 2 months late. The delivery person is always different, so I'm thinking we're on the "training route" or something.

Isn't DHL's current slogan/ad campaign something along the lines of "putting customer service back in the shipping industry".

I guess apparently they took out "fast, reliable service" whilst gaining "customer service".

One time while I lived in the city, I had a package delivered by UPS (import Dreamcast game from NCSX) and it said it had been delivered. Me - I'm a hawk (keeping an eye out) when a package is supposed to be delivered...so I was checking the website and the door all day. After awhile it said it was delivered, so I run downstairs to grab my new game...and there's no package. I look all around for it and finally find it downstairs between the screen door + front door of the door next door (which, luckily at the time, was an empty/unrented shop). Stooooopid driver!
