Anyone heard of the Hells Canyon Motorcycle Rally?

    http://www.hellscanyonrally.com/

well...i guess i'm going on a customer event there. company is going to rent me a harley and i'm going with a co-worker and some fleet customers. then we're going to ride to Glacier National Park. should take about a week.

my partner on my account was asking what type of harley he should reserve for me. i have no idea. any opinions?

What are your choices? How much motorcycle riding experience do you have? (I know you're an avid bicyclist)

What is your height and weight? How long's the ride?

Unless you are really large, I'd tend towards a Sportster just because it is lighter and handles better than a Big Twin. If you are in the twisties, get the lightest bike possible.

    Is a Buell an option?

I know crap about the bikes, but Hells Canyon is a beautiful place. Enjoy it... it is one the the better "unknown" places in the country.

hmmm....dunno about a buell. that would be pretty neat. would it be comfy enough to ride for long distances?

and gigger...as my co-worker said yesterday, "we work hard. but we play just as hard."

it just so happens that our company pays us to play as well.

You probably won't get one of these (2003 was the last year they were sold), but this is my favorite Harley. If I were to buy one, this is what I'd look for:

i've rented a low rider and a wide glide

low rider is very "standard" feeling. nice ride. wide glide had forward controls, depending on your height -might feel a little stretched out. both verynice rides. looking to buy my own soon

if you can - get an 06 model - the clutches are easier on your wrists.

roadkings are designed for touring, may be a little easier on the backside. roadkings have floor boards as well - so it's a much more comfortable riding position.

your butt will probably ache either way so just grin and enjoy the scenery

man o man this really worries me - the last thing you want is a couple guys who have 0 riding experience in the middle of a 100+ group (or a 10 + group for that matter)... Thats teh fastest way to get yoruself hurt i know of.

    Please be carefull.

Do you know what countersteering is? and how to use it?

Do you know which brakes to use and when?

shoot me back and i'll give you a fast life saver low down on riding.

If I remember correctly Cheapie has his MC endorsement.

Having the endorsement and being an experienced rider are two totally different things.

but our group will be 4-6 people. and yeah, i know what counter-steering is. the reason i have my endorsement is because i had a bike for years.

fun times! we had a group of 9 guys that we were with most of the time plus whoever else was on the road at the same time.

    http://home.comcast.net/~hcmr/

here's the initial group at the base of mt. hood. we didn't get the other couple guys until we got to idaho.

since the bikes were almost all harleys, at least one had to break down.

the scenery was incredible almost the whole time.

I agree completely..but you have to admit those are some pretty good perks next to having a beautiful spouse and two of the cutest kids in the world (next to the melon offspring)

i switched at the dealer for a v-rod. much faster and far more agile. not all that much more uncomfortable. i'll miss the platform to put my feet on for sure. but it's more "me" than a huge road king. i'll post pics later.
