A good inkjet printer that'll print to printable CDs?

Anyone have any experience printing to CD/DVDs? I'm looking for a good, not great one. Never used one before.

Any input you have I would appreciate.

    Thanks!

    Dave.

I use the Epson R200 to do this... Cost me about $99.

There is also the Epson R300 which is the upgrade.

Here is a link to the R300 on Pricegrabber: http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_g...n+Stylus+Photo

The Epson R200 and R300 series printers are a good choice.

I have found http://http://www.steves-digicams.com/printers.html and http://www.photo-i.co.uk/index.html to be two of the best sources of in-depth reviews of printers; Extremely detailed reports.

Are you talking about printing CD labels, or printing directly onto the CD itself?

You can print "CD labels" from just about any inkjet printer...

However I'd think he was talkin' about "directly on the disk" by his initial request and by the title of the thread... plus by printing on the disk, you don't have to worry about the label balancing issues that cause some CD/DVDs to fail.

The R200 and R300 Epsons I posted above, print directly on the disk surface.... so you just go and buy the white inkjet printable versions of your favorite CD/DVD blank manufacturer and use the included software to print directly to the disk.

Just an little personal experience feedback here....

I have an older Epson that does CD labels directly - the Stylus Photo 900. Darned good printer! It's an old generation now, with a heavy emphasis on photo quality first - regular print last. (You might get 4-5 ppm of text out of the thing!!!)

Now that printable media is easy to find (it wasn't when I bought the Epson '900), it's THE way to go. You'll be very pleased with what Epson will do for you. Besides, unless another brand has a special feature you need (like all-in-one with fax, which Epson does not do), once you go with an Epson, you'll never go back.

So do you have to heat the CD's in the oven first so they can bend around the roller for printing?

No, that's only if you want to type on them with the 'ol Selectric.

Everyone knows that you only heat CDs in the microwave! (it's much more exciting )

Many printers now use a straight through path for photo printing. It's much easier on the printer and media since the thickness varries so much with all the different media types. The R200/R300 series printers have a special tray to insert the CD on for printing.

Ordered the Epson R320 (which is apparently the successor to the R300). It looks like it has a lot of nice features. Thanks for the tips. And yes, as DF said, I'm looking to print directly to the disc (no stickers).

i bought the epsoon r220 a week ago. It works great, i had to cut a little peice off the cdtray cause it was catching, but other than that its good. It goes thru black ink alot faster than all the other colors. I bought extra ink from www.supermediastore.com they run a deal with a full set of inks + an additional black for like 18bux alot of times.
