ABC developing "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" series

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - ABC is developing a series based on "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," the hit thriller that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

The network has ordered a pilot, which the film's director, Doug Liman, is expected to shoot, subject to availability.

It envisages the pilot will be ready for midseason 2006-07 or fall 2007 consideration.

"Mr. & Mrs. Smith," revolving around a pair of married assassins hired to kill each other, earned more than $186 million at the North American box office last summer, and sparked a real-life romance between the two leads.

Wasn't there a series like this in the past already? I mean, I know that the story isn't new and there have been movies in the past with the same concept... for some reason I thought there had also been a series in the past like this.

Any suggestions for casting? I'd love to see a dynamic duo on the boob tube. I wonder what time slot ABC plans to line up. Definitely not against "24" since Kiefer will kick butt!

By then who knows what will work? More "reality TV"? Or "Lost"? Or Must See NBC? Or perhaps, ABC will take over as the #1 network...nah
