Apple releases 1GB iPod nano

Apple said it has released a 1GB iPod nano which it will sell for $149. It has similar features to the 2GB and 4GB models apart from its capacity.

It has also shuffled the iPod Shuffle prices, with 512MB and 1GB machines costing $69 and $99.

White and black models of the iPod for the Windows and for the Mac are already available, said Apple.

I'm glad the shuffle prices were dropped, makes much more sense at the price they are now and I might actually pick one up

Not that this thread has done it yet, but I always get a kick out of iPod threads. It always seems like there's 3 types of people:

- iPod -- Best thing since sliced bread
- iPod -- Overpriced piece of crap
- Just buy what you like

I was just reading a thread over at fatwallet that degraded into this type of a conversation.

Considering that:

1gb - $149
2gb - $199
4gb - $249

I don't see why a perspective buyer would bother with a 1gig versus paying an extra $100 for 4x the capacity. Maybe that's just me though...

The Shuffles sound more price worthy now compared to other mp3 palyers. The nanos however I rather pay more and get the ones with video with a lot more storage.

Still I don't an iPod just because the cost is still high. I like the direction they are going in though.

As soon as I can 'spend' the money, I'm getting a 60gigger.
I should be getting my new Alpine cd deck tomorrow,...which has an iPod interface.
60gigs in the car? buh-bye cds.

well, it's all personal preference. Some people don't have 60gigs of audio.
some people don't have 400 dollars to spend on an mp3 player regardless of how great of a deal it may be in comparason to the other players, etc etc.

And I personally don't see why they made a 1gb nano. The 2gb one was a good choice as it was, but I guess it makes sense as as far as price goes, since the 1gb nano is pretty much just a shuffle with a screen and the ability to make playlists.

I think it makes great sense. They didn't have another product that fits in at that pricepoint. Plus... it gives their 4GB model more legs at the same $249 pricepoint. They could have easily introduced an 8GB model and bumped the 4GB down to $199 and the 2GB to the new $149 point. But... nope, they chose to stretch out the life cycle of the 4GB.

An 8GB black Nano would be quite nice.

If you could record directly to your iPod Nano and play more movie formats, I could see the smaller size being attractive. Plus at $150 you don't have to walk around like it's a carton of eggs. They could also be reaching out the non- technophile who is interested in using it for photos or music and is a little short on cash. $150 sounds a lot cheaper too Hmm I wonder if any camera will come out that lets you save directly to iPod, in place of SD/ Compact Flash? Now that would be cool.
