    American Idol

so who's sucked into watching it?

the girls got it going on so much more than the guys it seems. but i've said since the auditions that Paris is going to win it all, and i felt stronger last night about that choice after seeing the girl's performances.
she's got it in here genes for sure.

I thought Mandisa was awesome last night- my favorite of the 12.

I really don't like Paris Bennett. Also, I have to root for Ayla Brown because she is a local girl!

she's a great singer, great on stage and has a super personality.
i'd be happy to see her win it.

when Simon had commented on them needing a bigger stage this year due to her weight and then she told him to his face that she had forgiven him for making fun of her because you "can forgive someone even if they don't say they are sorry."
i thought, girl, you are one classy chick.

I can't stand her....she's reaching levels of cockiness that only Kanye West has achieved.

What was with all the slow songs last night though? Except for Mandisa and Paris, everyone else sang slow, low toned songs and I almost slept through the whole thing. I hope the guys tonight sing some more fast paced/high energy songs (like Bo did in S4 with Sweet Home Alabama, etc).

I like Mandisa on the women's side and Taylor Hicks (guy with the gray hair) on the guy's side...I hope those two are the finalists.

I think Katharine McPhee and Paris Bennett are really good too. Most of the girls have fair to good talent...on the guy's side...I don't really like any of them except Taylor. Almost all of the guys are a bunch of poindexters.

I like Mandisa 'cause she's a thick woman and I'm sick of the anorexic ones getting the spotlight. Don't get me wrong...I love Kelly Clarkson (umm...no wait, I didn't just say that) and I like Carrie Underwood a lot. (I can't even name a single song that either Reuben or Fantasia has done so I'll omit them, even though Reuben was a bit of a 'large' fella himself.)

It'd be nice to see Mandisa be in the top 2 'cause she doesn't look like 'the stereotypical "star"' and I'd like to see her get some recognition.

I thought we'd stop watching after the initial shows (with the terrible people that everyone loves to laugh at and wonder how they think they have talent), but...we're still watching.

American Idol’s William Hung Found Dead of Heroin Overdose
    7/13/2004 - Robert Krupto

Las Vegas, NV - Kitschy American Idol Star William Hung, famous for his botching of Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs,” was found dead yesterday, apparently of an intentional heroin overdose. The announcement of his death sent shockwaves to the tens of people who still found him funny.
Ironically, Mr. Hung was found by a VH1 camera crew sent to begin filing “William Hung: Behind the ‘Music.’” Viacom immediately decided to rename the special: “William Hung: fifteen minutes till death.”

Friends of Mr. Hung say he had become despondent in recent days. “I don’t know, it’s just so sad,” said Ming Tse, one of Hung’s former classmates at Stanford, “I heard him the other day on Snotbubble’s Morning Madhouse; he kept trying to make William say things like ‘me so horny’ and ‘hey sailor’ while playing the sound of a bomb falling. I just know William was hurting inside when Snotbubble got him to say, ‘you wanna some-e egg foo young-e.’ It was so sad. I just think he was tired of the commercialization of it all.”

Other friends, who had lost contact with him in recent weeks, feared he was becoming too “Hollywood.” “I’m not surprised he was on heroin,” said Hung’s engineering cohort Melvin Samples, “I mean just two months ago we were out at our usual corner table at Smitty’s, and William actually went and talked to some girls. The next thing I know he’s doing shots with some hipster guys; they were calling him ‘Long Duck Dong’ and making him say ‘au-to-mo-bile.’ From what I hear, it’s not a long leap from that to heroin addiction.”

Stanford’s hippy population immediately misconstrued the situation and adopted Hung’s death as a pet cause. “He was a victim of the corporate greed-machine, just like Kurt [Cobain] and Eddie [Vedder, who is actually still alive],” said one dreadlocked mourner outside the engineering department at Stanford University, where a makeshift memorial had been set up, “he just wanted to sing, and Fox decided to turn him into this joke, man, this ****ing joke. They just ate him up and spit him out. ****ing Bill O’Reily. I think it’s because he was against the war.” The last comment is apparently in reference to the fact that Hung once answered “no, thank you” when asked whether he was “for or against the war in Iraq.”

The Las Vegas police released part of his suicide note. It read, “I have no reason of living . . . my art which is my importance to the best everybody laugh to . . . I make end here . . . goodbye world of cruel.”

Although Hung’s immediate family disowned him seconds after his appearance on American Idol, it is believed he has an aunt in Toledo, Ohio who will take care of funeral arrangements.

That sounds more like racism to me.

Are you f'n kidding me?
He starts talking to women and having fun with some people and that's "not a long leap to heroin addiction"? WTF are YOU addicted to, ya bleedin' idiot.

A) Cobain killed himself because he was suicidal and depressed and the heroin didn't help the situation any. A lot of people think that the popularity (and the responsibility that comes along with it) is what killed him, but no one will ever know. About the only 'reach' that can be made about this is with Dave Chappelle recently getting all messed up (mentally) and seeking escape; he didn't take the "permanent" route though (obviously).

    B) Eddie Vedder isn't a 'victim' of anything except his stubborness and a complete writer's block of talent. Pearl Jam hasn't put out a decent album since Vs.; I like Vitalogy myself but it's nowhere near as good as Vs. and a longstretch from Ten.

    C) Bill O'Reilly is a weak jack***; I hate the tool. He loves poking fun at people but the first instance of anyone commenting on his 'infidelity' gets a load of harsh words. Nice one, Bill.

The first thought (about the suicide note) is that it's sad enough...but his family disowning him? WTF that's just terrible; I can't believe that.

The guy was funny...whether he had "talent" or not...he was still funny.

I'm pretty sure that site is a farce...

Had William Hung really died, entertainment news would be all over it by now.

    BTW...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Hung

Rumors circulated around the Internet in mid-2004 that Hung had died of a heroin overdose. Started by a satirical article on Broken Newz written by Bill Doty and Joe the Peacock, the rumour spread far enough that a Singaporean newspaper, The Straits Times, printed an article confirming that he was not dead and would fulfill his tour schedule in that country.

Yeah, it he had died in '04, it would've been pretty difficult for him to be on the finale of Arrested Development!

I only caught the last 10 minutes of AI last night, so from watching Taylor sing and the quick recaps of everyone else, I liked Ace and Taylor best. I'll watch the whole episode later. Yay for DVRs!

anyone still hanging in there and following this? i am really liking Chris Daughtry, but i like his kinda music, too.

i guess he's been asked by the band Fuel to be their new lead singer. they were impressed with his rendition of their song "Hemorrhage" that he sang on the show. which i thought sounded close to the original too.

Fuel reportedly offers Idol's Chris Daughtry a job as its lead singer

American Idol 5 frontrunner Chris Daughtry impressed the judges and the public with his rendition of “Hemorrhage” by Fuel last week. And he also impressed Fuel, so much so that they’ve reportedly offered him a job as their lead singer.

Jeff Abercrombie, the group’s bass player, told Extra that Chris did “a great job. This guy delivered. And he delivered like he’d written the song himself.” The band’s lead singer, Brett Scallions, left the group early in February. And following Chris’ performance, Randy Jackson told Access Hollywood that “Chris just got offered to be in the band Fuel, the lead singer is gone so they are trying to get it together.”

But it may not be a sure thing. The group is having a contest to replace their lead singer. Their web site’s announcement for this search mentions Chris’ performance, but also asks others to send in performances for consideration. Of course, Chris is currently handcuffed to Idol by its contract, so by the time he can sing for Fuel, its original members will be long gone.

I think Chris is a good singer, but I don't really like him all the much. Maybe it's because his songs really do sound like karaoke versions of whatever he happens to sing. I think he would do well singing with Fuel.

I still prefer Elliot and Taylor.

Manilow was on for a show and gave them pointers and helped with their arrangements for that show, but thank gawd they didn't have to sing his songs. unlike when Stevie Wonder was on and they all had to sing one of his songs. which was cool.

You're right he did change it up......so that it sounded exactly like Live's version of the song.

I can't believe I just posted in the American Idol thread.

...which was reported all over the place that he didn't admit to 'stealing' the Live cover of the song, which is a fallacy, because the judges were the idiots that didn't know that Live did a cover of the song...and I'm sure he (Chris) was tired of defending himself for people sticking words in his mouth so he talked about it the other night when Seacrest asked about it and he said "yeah it was Live's version".

    I still hope Mandisa wins.
I like Taylor but I'm getting sick of him...his euphemisms (sp?) and his "dancing", its...getting old. It was great the first few times - it's time to do something else and show he's not one dimensional.

Chris is a great singer...I like him a lot. I also think Elliot has really shown a lot the last few weeks and he's gotten much better as well. And I still like Bucky even though I'm sure he'll get canned this week for being "country".

I'm surprised McPhee was in the bottom 3 last week...what a shock. I don't really like her that much myself...she's ok. I can't stand Kellie Pickler...what a fake. That girl is seriously getting on my nerves. She is waaaaaaay too fake; no matter what you think about Vote For The Worst, they've had people from Pickler's hometown writing them with info on her phoniness. "I've never sang in front of people before." Yeah sure Kellie...it's not like you go to karaoke every week or anything.

I think the judges have officially become worthless.
Randy Jackson needs to go back to grade school because he doesn't know any other words than "dog" and "word". Paula needs to lay off the drugs. Simon needs to quit the "extremist" garbage. (ie "You're the WORST EVER" or "You're the greatest I've ever heard"...show us some gray area/middle...don't flipflop from one extreme to the other and quit being so melodramatic)
